While the term Founding Fathers is used a great deal, one must note that there was a general sense of agreement on the need for a new government and country, but there were differences in their political ideologies. Some Founding Fathers were for a more powerful federal government, while others were more focused on state powers. The point to be made here is that the Founding Fathers were not an ideologically unified group of people. The Founding Fathers had a vision of making America a melting pot, but the path of setting up a different style of government had many trials and tribulations. After many obstacles were overcome, the United States was formed under the political structure of a democratic republic, which is mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance. In this unit, the thoughts and strategies behind the founding of the United States and the ideas and principles utilized to create the Constitution will be examined. In the Beginning What is politics? What part do citizens have in the political process? The United States has a political culture that began during Colonial times and was refined during the Revolutionary War. This unit will examine the thoughts and strategies behind our nation’s founding and the ideas and principles utilized to create our Constitution. In the Beginning What is politics? What part do we as citizens have in the political process? The United States has a political culture that was begun during colonial times and refined during the Revolutionary War. When the colonists declared their independence from Great Britain, the Founding Fathers declared that Americans were entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Along with this entitlement also came a duty because nothing is ever free. It should be our active goal as U.S. citizens to understand how politics affects every part of our lives from the moment we are conceived until we depart this world. We should be informed of what those who represent us are doing so that we can guide their steps and keep them accountable. Early American core values for governing were centered on the ideas of liberty, individualism, equality, and self-government. Establishing these ideals was not without issue. The First and Second Continental Congresses were fraught with turbulence and animosity, as were the weeks.

Jan Narveson asks the provocative, philosophical question: is the state necessary? In this unusual introduction to political philosophy, Narveson draws on the history of political philosophy and discusses its main theories_classic liberal, democratic, socialist, radical_with reference to how each sees the place of the individual in the political order. Narveson's critique is situated within issues of freedom, authority, economic welfare, international relations and others to explore how and whether the state is necessary. His argument is ultimately anti-statist and takes seriously the question of whether and how some version of anarchism might make sense.

Response one pol-01 Tulis’ thesis is one that could not be more pertinent and on point with what is happening currently in the White House. A President is testing the boundaries of where his power begins and ends; will the remaining three years be dominated by the Large “C” or the little “c”?2 I would argue that President Trump assumed or went into office believing he had “huge” public support and could stretch the boundaries much farther than his predecessor, able to ignore many rules and boundaries laid throughout the Constitution. But using President Trump as an example is still a bit premature since only one year has gone by and three more remain to define his presidency. President Lincoln is by far my favorite president to read about and happens to be a great example of utilizing presidential power bestowed by the people, or the little “c”. As our weekly lesson provided, President Lincoln presided over the Country during an extraordinary time and as such, required extraordinary measures to ensure the continuation of our great Union. There are many examples of President Lincoln stretching the boundary, and in some cases completely dismissing the Bill of Rights in the Constitution. But his act of suspending Habeas Corpus is one of great interest and still has unanswered questions. The “Great Writ” is one of the first liberties the Founders established and it protects people from capricious arrests demanding that cause be proven before a judge as to why you are being detained. Although the Article I does state that the Writ of Habeas Corpus can be suspended during times of unrest and when public safety is required, it did not define who has the authority to suspend it (Congress or President); or how long it can be suspended.1 The only ruling that came out of President Lincoln’s action to suspend Habeas Corpus was a Supreme Court ruling in 1866, Ex Parte Milligan, which stated that the power to suspend Habeas Corpus was not inclusive of Military Courts if civilian courts were open.1 So my question is, although President Lincoln had a great public support from the Northern States and no one really questioned his action, how long would that last? President Lincoln was a wise man and did not abuse that power by suspending Habeas Corpus or other civil liberties longer than what was necessary, but what if it was not Lincoln? What if a president obtained so much public support that the checks and balances became futile? Most scholars maintain that the Judiciary and Congress place constraints on unilateral decisions made by the President, yet this is situational given political agendas and loyalties.3 Add in party politics to the mix; a party has a majority in Congress, a majority in the Supreme Court and sits in the White House, who dares to cross party lines and stand up? These are all things to consider when discussing the breadth of Presidential Powers being derived from the little “c”. I am hopeful and optimistic that the people and our instit ...

Philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle provide us with the foundations of political theory. Plato's work, The Republic , includes the allegory of the cave. The story goes something like this: You find yourself in a cave, chained to the ground, facing a stone wall. You cannot stand. All you know are the images that play out before you which are the shadows cast by a light source from behind you. You cannot see behind you, but you know that there are others in the cave with you. This is the only state you have ever known. It is your only reality of the world. Plato goes on to explain that one day, people come and remove your chains and take you out of the cave. As you can imagine, you are scared and frightened. You fight these individuals as they drag you into this new setting. However, over time you learn to accept the larger image of the world around you and come to understand life outside of the cave. You then attempt to go back into the cave to free others. This story was Plato's attempt to explain the world around us. We only know or believe what we are exposed to. If we do not break the chains and leave our cave, we will not be exposed to anything else. What is outside our cave? Do you consistently receive your political information from one source? Did you grow up in a family that watched the same news station every night? Do you only read one news source? This allegory emphasizes the value of knowledge. Aristotle took Plato's works and expanded on them. Plato's work was abstract and viewed people as lacking reason while Aristotle's approach focused on human rationality. Aristotle was the first to define political science and became known as the father of political science.

Identify and describe the possible roles of the media in influencing government and its citizens using specific descriptive examples. Please create a PowerPoint presentation to assist you in your presentation. As you complete your presentation, be sure to: Use speaker's notes to expand upon the bullet point main ideas on your slides, making references to research and theory with citation. Proof your work Use visuals (pictures, video, narration, graphs, etc.) to compliment the text in your presentation and to reinforce your content. Do not just write a paper and copy chunks of it into each slide. Treat this as if you were going to give this presentation live. APA format Length: 8-10 substantive slides (excluding cover and references slides) Font should not be smaller than size 16-point Parenthetical in-text citations included and formatted in APA style References slide (a minimum of 2 outside scholarly sources within the last five (5) years plus the weekly lesson ) Title and introduction slide required weekly lesson: Political theory was born in ancient Greece.

This article aims to demonstrate that the Lula government is faced with two major challenges in its effort to promote Brazil's economic and social development. The first challenge, of an economic nature, is represented by the obstacles that exist with the spending cap policy, despite the flexibility provided by the fiscal framework and the existence of an independent Central Bank, which make the Brazilian government unable to coordinate its fiscal and monetary policies, make public investments in the expansion of the economy and obtain macroeconomic stability and, the second challenge, of a political nature, is represented by the obstacles existing in the National Congress due to the fact that it does not have a majority in parliament, which prevents the federal government from putting its national developmental project into practice and fully meet social demands. For Brazil's progressive forces to re-elect President Lula in the 2026 presidential elections and obtain a parliamentary majority in the National Congress committed to political, economic and social advances, the Lula government will have to be successful on the economic front, promoting the expansion of the economy, increasing significantly generating jobs and income, keeping inflation under control and meeting the maximum social demands that benefit, above all, the country's underserved populations. Brazil's progressive forces need to commit, starting from the 2024 municipal elections, towards to elect the maximum number of mayors and councilors committed to Brazil's political, economic and social advances. These are the conditions to prevent, in 2026, right-wing extremists from regaining the Presidency of the Republic, expanding their participation in state governments and the National Congress and putting their nefarious anti-social and anti-national project into practice.
