3. Second Life Grid is another platform where
businesses and educators build virtual worlds.
Educators can go to this website and receive help
and support to create their perfect virtual
environment.
Harvard, Stanford, and Texas University are a few of
the universities that have used Second Life Grid to
create their virtual worlds. Educators are
encouraged to go inworld and meet other
educators, learn how to teach classes, and interact
with students.

5. Princeton University in
Second Life
A campus was opened up in
2007 for class
projects, research
activities, and meetings.
The virtual campus is a
replica of the actual campus
and includes buildings such
as Nassau Hall, Alexander
Hall, and the Chancellor
Green Library. The virtual
campus offers a campus
community open to all
current Princeton
students, and an Alumni in
SL group which is designed
for social networking.

7. In this article teachers and students are
described as pioneers – exploring new
worlds that do not exist on Earth. Here
is a quote from the article that I found
interesting, “The typical experience in a
distance-education class is to go to a
website, watch a video, [and] correspond
by e-mail ... usually just with the
instructor and even then only
intermittently,” says Rebecca Nesson, a
Harvard law school graduate who is
teaching the class along with her
father, law school professor Charles
Nesson. “Second Life gives us the
capability to really have a classroom
experience with the students.”
In order to illustrate the story Three Hat
Riddle, professor Nesson brought 3
student avatars to the front of the class
and put different colored hats on their
heads. This is an example of how virtual
classrooms allow you to still have the

visual effect of a real classroom.
8. I am not completely sold on the education aspect of Second Life
because I have never really been interested in the Second Life
concept. I find it weird for people to want to create a “second life”
and perhaps be something that they are not. In my opinion, escaping
to a virtual world everyday could potentially lead to an unhealthy real
life. Different strokes for different folks….just because I do not like it
does not mean that others can’t.
As far as the educational tools that are offered on Second Life, I think
that it is a good example of today’s technology and all of the things
that the Web can offer.
