2. My magazine is aimed at a unisex audience aged 16-24 who are trend setting individualists. So these are the main social groups represented in my work.
3. My front cover features a picture of a young female, the residual ideology of women is that they are meek and subservient, and valued for their beauty and sexual prowess. The ideology of young women has now developed to females being viewed as powerful figures who are in control of their own sexuality. My representation of females in my magazine has all the models in casual clothes, they aren't in revealing outfits or using their sexual power to entice the reader, I chose to do this as I wanted to respect the emergent ideology and illustrate to the readers that women in this magazine are valued for their musical talent and not their sexuality. At the same time however, I still ensured my models were dressed in clothes associated with the indie and folk scenes, as I wanted the style to be recognisable so it would be appealing to these specific social groups of individualists.
4. My front cover had a female focus in models, but a nondescript colour scheme that I intended to be neutral and unisex. The browns and ochre's compliment the mise-en-scene of the natural background of water and woodland, these also challenge the residual ideology associated with young people of urban dwelling 'hoodies' who loiter on street corners in gangs. The natural background and props dispel these images and connote awareness in the natural world.
5. I have used male models in my Contents Page and also my Double Page Spread, the residual ideology of males suggests that men are strong, powerful, and superior to women. Whereas the emerging ideology shows men as sensitive, metro sexual, and with growing equality to women.
6. I have tried to reinforce this emerging idea, my male models are not in poses connoting power or animosity, and on my contents page none of the models make eye contact with the reader, connoting an air of disinterest associated with the indie culture. In my double page spread the band I have featured, is made up of three girls and one male, instead of issuing the man the leading role in the band, the females make the focal point. I wanted to offer a differing band layout as alternative music lovers that I am trying to target may be intrigued. The male model isn't in possessive poses over the females, and seems to be equal to the female models, although he does happen to be the foremost model in the left page of the double spread. I wanted to illustrate the equality of sexes within the music world to the readers in a subtle way, as the modern youth culture are most likely to be bought up with the emerging ideologies.
7. The content and written style of my magazine is informal with a smattering of student humour, this may reinforce the stereotype of young people being immature, but I tried to balance out the jokes with articles that look informative, by using columns and a font size of 8, and with music as the core of the articles. I hoped this taboo language, and risqué content as well as the informative musical content would attract my thrill seeking and alternative audience.
