2. The poster of the film Valentines Day serves many connotations and stereotypical preconceptions of what a person automatically thinks when they hear the word Valentines Day. This film was released a few days before Valentines Day, so the directors were very specific to when their film releases, to be open to all international audiences. Many famous faces and prestigious stars have been selected in this film, all included in this very compact yet sweet to the eye poster.
3. The composition of this photo is very unique. Every famous character in this film has been placed, in the same sized square equally, with at least two men and women in the same row. This represents the gender equality and proximity between the male and female.
4. The lighting here looks rather artificial, with clear effects on Photoshop and software programming. However, this further adds to the lack of social realism in the film and how the lighter the images are, the more of a “feel good” effect it projects to the audiences. All characters, young and older, in this poster are smiling. This is an immediate illustration and connotation of happiness and triumph in both life and of course, love.
5. The directors have chosen to locate one of the most famous romantic comedies, ‘Pretty Woman’, in bold at the top of the poster to attract the fans of that movie to this one. The decision of making the title bold in capital letters could be seen as a stamp-like title and could have possible connotations of love being stamped onto a heart. It attracts the audience to how a film with so many famous actors and actresses could only cover a day in the life of love. This fuels the audience’s temptation to watch the film, with either their partners, parents, friends or alone.
6. Colour in this poster is evidently crucial to the themes of the film. A black background elucidates the negativities of love and how it can turn upside down. Additionally, the white above signifies the innocence of love and how it can be accidental or unrequited or deeply true. The pink heart is an obbvious connotation of love, passion and just completes the poster’s intention of attracting audiences.
