Families are struggling Quality of family life influences every other part of our life. Itโs the window where children get their first glimpse of God. Yet, 50% ofโฆ. Rely on the Church Drop off mentality Spiritual Life Parents feel ill-equipped 90% of teens drop out by college. 1/3 never returns hypocracy
A study was conducted by the Search Institute to help determine what factors influenced teens in their faith. The most significant religious influence for Christian teens today is: Over the past 40 years, weโve seen the best programs for children and youth ever created in the history of the Church. No matter how good a church program is, if children donโt see godly living modeled and hear issues of values and faith discussed in the home, any faith they gain at church probably will not stick when they grow older.
As a church, we have only a limited time each week to influence kids in their faith. Parents, on the other hand, have the home field advantage. Equipping parents for their God-given role in the home is essential.
Parents have the greatest influence spiritually but they also have the lifetime commitment and responsibility. The church has an ongoing partnership, but that can only be accomplished and flourish if parents are fulfilling their role at home. Deuteronomy Joshua 24:16 โAs for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.โ Proverbs 22:6 โTrain a child in the way they should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.โ What would your kids say you love most?? Would they say you love God first and foremost? Wrestling: imprints/impressions on our children Worship (sometimes the church fragments the family) Showing/expressing my love for God like I do for Ryan and the kids (Prayer)
While no church is perfect, the level of excellence in church ministries today is astounding. The church has never been more intentional. But the home is really struggling. Thereโs a role the church must play in instilling faith in the next generation but there is also a role only the home can play. Our focus shouldnโt be on what is or isnโt happening at the church โ but on what desperately needs to happen in the home.

What defines successful parenting? As good as or better than other parents around you? Your child makes a positive contribution in the world? Child at age 30 Deuteronomy 6 Mandate: Love God and love others. Filter for making decisions on what we do, where we go, etc. Parents want to know how to build faith. Here are 3 things weโre doing..
Many parents today are searching for help. They surf the Internet, watch Oprah and Dr. Phil and buy every self-help book that promises to keep their families together for another day. Many parents want to spend time with their kids. They have good intentions about talking to their kids on a deeper level. They want to share their faith. The problem is, they donโt know how. This is a list of basic faith skills every family should be equipped to practice in their homes. This year, we will focus on the following 3.
As parents play the primary role in the spiritual development of their children, the church becomes a vital partner. At each stage of life, we partner with parents through classes, communities, resources, counseling, and special events that encourage and complement what parents are doing at home.

5 minutes that inspires, motivates and equips. Child dedications, which are sometimes performed as a ritual with very little lasting impact, can become a very powerful initial equipping tool. During the dedication: The vision for Faith at Home is presented and parents embrace the responsibility to develop the faith of their children. The church becomes a lifelong partner in this process by providing training and resources. Parents are given the 1st faith building resource to teach their child about Jesus and will receive another for each stage of the childโs life. The goal should be to implement and collect these resources while raising the child so that when he/she has a child, he/she can have all the resources needed to pass on the faith to the 3rd generation. This becomes a powerful first step in establishing the parents as the most important faith influencers, the home as the primary place where faith is nurtured and the Church as a lifelong partner. As a child grows, a new age-appropriate faith skill will be introduced through a parents training event that inspires, motivates and equips parents to do these faith skills in the home.
Starting Point Evaluation This Year: soft launch, trying things, learning
Imagine what would happen if every family attended a training event each year from the birth of their child until that child reached age 18. Even if you took a cynical view and claimed that over the course of 14 years and 14 training events a family only actively engages in 3 faith skills, at least they are doing 3 more than they were before! A family serving others together for Christ will be changed. A family praying together will be changed. A family reading the Bible together will be changed. In the long run, weโll see transformed families.
Spiritual Growth: Many Christian parents today are not living out what they are professing. Building faith at home equips parents to live out their faith in a way that it is โcaughtโ not just โtaughtโ. Parents learn & grow spiritually while they are developing faith in their children . Outreach: Family ministry appeals to the unchurched. A church that works personally with its people, touching individuals where they live and helping them to live more fulfilled lives, is a church that creates strong bonds that are not easily broken . As a church reaches out to strengthen its families, it itself is strengthened. Discipleship: This is not just another program. Itโs an intentional way to target several generations in โDiscovering Christ, Developing Faith and Deploying Love.โ Itโs not the next new thing. It is a strategic way to reach a far greater percentage of our parents and families in this disciplemaking process. As parents builds into their children, they are instilling faith in the next generation and future generations. God designed the home as the primary place for spiritual formation. A strong family is where โthe Wordโ becomes โflesh and bloodโ in the context of real relationships. Our perception of God is heavily influenced by the relationship we have with our parents โ for good or bad. The church needs to keep fulfilling its role with excellence but the time has come for us to call the family to fulfill its role and help them do so in an intentional manner. We must Build Faith @ Home .
