This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching 4th grade students about Appalachia. It includes using the book "The Sign of the Beaver" to teach predicting, summarizing, and characterization. Students will brainstorm and create a rough draft for an Appalachian narrative. They will also learn content vocabulary and places in Appalachia. Students will be divided into groups to study and present on the climate in different Appalachian regions. The class will learn about Appalachian fairs and festivals through a bulletin board exhibit. Measurement conversion from standard to metric units will also be covered.
