1. INTRODUCTION
Chandigarh Transport Undertaking came into existence on Ist November 1966
with the creation of Union Territory of Chandigarh and 30 buses were transferred
from Punjab State to Chandigarh Administration. With the growth of city and to cope
up with the public demand, the CTU fleet increased to 417 buses and CTU is
now having three depots and 2286 employees. All the three CTU workshops
are well equipped with modern tools and equipment. A Cold Tyre Retreading
Plant with modern techniques has also been set up in 2003.The CTU is also
managing two Inter State Bus Terminus at Sector-17 & Sector-43 Chandigarh.
OBJECTIVES
To provide safe, eco-friendly, cost-effective and efficient modes of Transportation.
OPERATIONAL JURISDICTION
The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking operates urban as well as sub urban
routes for the convenience of citizen of Chandigarh as well as adjoining areas
of Punjab and Haryana. The CTU also operates Inter State routes in the states
of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, U.P., J & K and Himachal Pardesh. The
fleet is divided into 3 depots which are supervised and controlled by General
Managers. Beside the above 417 buses, 100 buses (60 ordinary buses+40 Air conditioned
Buses) have been added under the JnNURM Scheme.
SOCIAL OBLIGATION
Chandigarh Transport Undertaking is providing free traveling facility to freedom
fighters, handicapped persons, and war widows etc. The CTU is also providing
concessional facility to the Senior Citizens, Chandigarh Police, CBI and
concessional bus passes are issued to the students.
Facilities/ Concessions provided by CTU in Ordinary buses and proposed for
HV A/C buses in U.T. Area Chandigarh.

SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC
(i) ISBT, Sector-17
The buses going to Ambala and Delhi side are operating from ISBT-17,
Chandigarh. The Station Supervisor CTU is the Incharge of ISBT, Sec-17
and ISBT-43. They are Available from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
(ii) ISBT, Sector-43
In order to de-congest traffic at ISBT, Sector-17 a new ISBT has been
constructed in Sector-43. All public amenities have been provided at ISBT-
43. The buses for Punjab ,Himachal and J&K side are plying from ISBT-43.
(iii) Inquiry Counters/Cloak room
Telephone facilities have been provided at ISBT, Sector-17, Chandigarh,
Ph. No. 0172-2700006 and ISBT, Sector-43, Ph. No. 0172-2624413 for
inquiry purposes to the general public from 5.00 a.m. to 09.00 p.m. Cloak
Room facility is provided at ISBT, Sector-17 & ISBT-43 for 24 hours.
(iv) Buses on Contract
Buses are being provided for purpose of tours, marriage parties etc.
on contract basis. The General Manager/Accounts Officer/Accountant
of depot concerned can be contacted for taking buses on contract. The
buses are also provided for school/college students for educational tours.
(v) Office hours of Divisional Office/General Manager CTU
The office hours of the offices of the Divisional Manager CTU and General
Managers of CTU depot-I,II & III is from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. with lunch
break from 1.00 p.m. to 1.30 p.m.

C.T.U. provides following bus pass facility to the general public at ISBT,
Sector-17,as well as at all the e-Sampark Centers of Chandigarh

4. The above rates of bus passes are subject to revision from time to time. The
timing of issuing of bus passes at ISBT-17 is 8.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. The facility of CTU
bus pass is also available at the e-Sampark Centers/Gram Sampark Centers U.T.,
Chandigarh.
The fare Structure for Local buses (within UT) is as Under:-
1. Ordinary Buses fare Rs.5.00 below 5kms.
Rs.10.00 above 5Kms.
2.Air Conditioned Buses fare Rs.10.00 below 5kms.

Introduction of GPS based vehicle-tracking System on 100 buses and Passengers
Information System (PIS) at 50 Bus queue shelter.
This undertaking has introduced GPS/PIS system and installed on 100 buses and at 50 bus queue
shelters for the facilities of the passengers to get the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) of buses at
the designated bus queue shelters. The ETA can be accessed by the general public/commuters in
two ways by using SMS facility and IVRS facility (normal charges apply). These can be accessed
as below:
1. Mobile/SMS Based Query System: The passengers can know the Estimated Time of Arrival
(ETA) of Buses at the designated bus queue shelters by sending SMS on Mobile no.9463598187.
This facility shows the nos.of routes and their ETA at the designated bus stop.
Type ETA(space)name of bus queue shelter i.e sec19/7,sec7/19,sec20mkt,
Manimajra,PGI,ISBT17,ISBT43 etc. and sec19/7 represent for sector-19 side stoppage and
sec7/19 represent for sector-7 side stoppage and sec20mkt for sector-20 market.
2. Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) : In this System the ETA of the particular route no.
at the bus stop of the said route can be accessed. This facility can be availed by dialing both from
mobile and landline to phone no. 0172-2639933 and 0172-2639977. The query will be answered
by a computer generated response system. The IVRS system will guide the process to the caller.
