THE NEEDLE KICK!
               MUST HAVE ONE!
It is the most important shape to
         have to turn over everything!

Sunday, October 11, 2009
WAYS TO TRAIN THE NEEDLE
                      SHAPE!
 Needle kicks are done on every event!
 Static with holds and pulls, ballistic in a
            row, with tubing, with weights.
 You should see the needle turn over skills.
If you do not see needle you will see the
chest down and the body bent in half. Not
            good!
 It turns over cartwheels, round offs,
            handsprings, and all aerials skills!
 Use the slider for all kicking skills and you

FLAT HIPS IN ALL BASICS SKILLS!
 Use sliders: on knees slide out to flat hips and
            pull back up.
 Side cartwheel to handstand and hold with flat
hips. Do against a wall so they can touch their
            hips.
 Then go square to center flat hip hold and
            square landing.
 Do glide shape with sliders, use wedge mat at
bars and train the long shape to pike legs into
            bar.
 Handstand in a split (middle of back walkover
and back handspring) and step down with hips

The Chest ROLL !
 From knee on an 8 inch mat do a chest roll!
 Then from a stand on 8 inch mat do a chest
            roll!
 Now from knee do a front handspring to
high releve and chest roll. Never do from a
            stand! Only from knee!
 With bands on do fly springs across the
            tumble track in a row!
 Front limber up to one and two panel mats!
 Walk up bridge on mats between the bars
            and stand up!

 Shoot to candle up the wall!
 Candle pull off the wall.
 Shoot up to candle and snap off the wall!
 On landing mats from pike shape shoot to
candle, travel, and hold in candle at the end!
        Candle shoot to bridge!
 Jump to resi mats to a candle and pull a pike!
 Jump onto a barrel to candle and pull a pike
            and layout step out.
 Swing to candle off bars for a dismount , pac,
            and shoot over!

SQUAT STAND UPS AND HOPS!
 Across the floor do squat hops. Plain, with
one mat and then with two!
 Stand up sit down: two leg, one leg on each
side! Do on floor and beam!
 Candle stick stand ups to hop, then do on
            one and two panel mats!

Sunday, October 11, 2009
STRAIGHT LEG PUNCHES!
 Across the floor! Forward, sideward, and
            backward.
 Off of the beam! Punches, handstand
            punch, back walkover punch, cartwheel
punch, back handspring, and round off.
 Punch drills off the board!
        Over panel mats punches!

ONE LEG DRILLS!
      HALF OF OUR GYMNASTIC SKILLS
       ARE DONE FROM ONE FOOT!
 One leg stand up and sit down.
 One leg hops with leg straight and with leg
up onto a mat as hop out of bottom foot.
 Stand ups onto blocks with one foot. Then
hop and last hop and kick.
 Candle stick hop ups without panel and
            with panel mat.
 Straight leg skips on floor and beam!
 One hops: straight and bent.

TUCK JUMPS ONTO MATS!
       • Do tuck jumps up onto mats hip or rib
            high.
       • Do forward from stand and straighten when
            arrive on the mat.
       • This is done forward and backward.
       • The hips should rise in this drill then shape
            the tuck.

Sunday, October 11, 2009
LONG PUSH UP SHAPE!
 Do on ground, between mats, between
            boards
 Do with walks, hops and sliders. Pull in the
push up shape, start in pike and walk out
to push up and them pull the legs back into
            pike.
 Do with skills: handstand, cartwheels,
round offs, back walkovers and back
handsprings. So the gymnast does a snap
into and long push up shape on a 8 inch

Sunday, October 11, 2009
SNAP UNDER DRILLS!
 Start with a handstand and pike down.
 Then use sliders and slide through arms to
            go to long shape
 On 8 inch mat do a straight body fall back
 Round off to back on 8 inch mat.
 Using two panel mats on top of an 8 inch
mat go handstand pick down and through
            arms.

A LUNGE IS ONLY TO FINISH
                     SKILLS!
           TO MUCH LUNGING DESTROYS
                 BEAM TUMBLING!
 To much lunging make the gymnast buckle on
            beam, floor and vault!
 They must know how to step and snap down
out of skills with straight legs. Which is not
            being done enough!
 Do handstand step down on one foot flat and
on toe! The hips should be square and flat so
the back leg is low not high!
 Then it turns into punching straight leg on toe!

HOW THE LUNGE CAUSES SKILLS

BASIC SKILLS BETWEEN MATS
               AND UP ONTO MATS!
 Do cartwheel, back walkover, and front
            walkover between mats!
 Do all the root skills up onto panel mats or 8
            inch mat.
 Do all skills one arm!
 Then take the one arm up onto mats!
 Then the root skills go over panel mats.
Walkovers, cartwheel, round off and back
            handsprings.
 All skills also go to a handstand with legs
together then in a split that fits the skill.

A CORRECT BRIDGE!
 A bridge is with the heel under hips! Not
            straight out in front!
 There should be basic use of a bridge done
right: push up into a bridge, walk and hop
in a bridge, back bend and up (two and one
            leg) and tick tock.
 If a gymnast can not do these (not a lot just
one right!) the basic skill will be messed up!
