- All of these people and a great many more are experts in the transition: they face it every day. Taken together, Europe&#x2019;s young have an incredible wealth of knowledge and expertise about how to make that transition, and what kind of society would be amenable to it. The problem is that this knowledge is dispersed among people who do not know each other, and would never think to interact to pool it.\n\nIf somebody were to make them come together, compare journeys, validate each other&#x2019;s experience and learn from each other, then we would have the largest think tank of transition experts in the world. We intend to do that. [CLICK!]\n
- How is this going to grow, because I mentioned fairly large numbers of participants. It&#x2019;s going to grow by word of mouth.So we are going to use social networks of weak ties a la Granovetter. They traverse society very quite quickly: as you have all known since the 70s we are all at a maximum 5-6 ties from every person on the planet. And we think we can reach out to a fairly large number of of people simply by going through existing networks. Those that European insituttions have already built, as well as those that will be more reliant on the first -comers. The participants on the platform who come first and who will tend to be innovators with large networks.\n\nAll our team members are hubs in networks of people engaged with the transition of youth towards an active life. We make use of those networks to reach out into spaces such as collaborative lifestyles, DIY-permissive technology, social innovation, we-government/open democracy. By connecting with the relevant network hubs, we will be able to reach to a lot of people that do not normally engage with European institutions. \n
- We are thinking about a scalable social bargain. And what we mean by that is the following. The underlying promise of this platform, the reason people should engage at all on the platform itself is that there is a commitment from the European Commission and the Council of Europe to take the results of the exercise seriously. To respect it. And to this bargain its very easy to add other institutions that might want to participate : local governments, provincial governments, city councils etc. In fact, we are already in discussion with several of them who have expressed interest and would like to add their own commitment to tha of the European Commission and The Council of EUrope [CLICK]\n\n\n\nThe social bargain underpinning our request for people to participate is very simple: if you write, we will read, and take you seriously. This makes it very easy for local and regional governments to join in, adding their promise to ours; and for third- or private sector organizations who think they have something to contribute (social innovators, lifestyle innovators, volunteer-driven organizations, providers of digital commons etc.) to reach out to their institutions.\n
