4. Medan is the capital of the North Sumatra
province in Indonesia.
Located on the northern coast, Medan is the fourth
largest city in Indonesia (behind Jakarta, Surabaya,
and Bandung), and the largest Indonesian city
outside Java.
The city is bordered by the Deli Serdang Regency
to the east, south and west, and the Strait of
Malacca to the north.
It is close to the volcano Sinabung, which erupted
in August 2010 after a 400 year dormant state.

7. Lake Toba, is the largest volcanic lake in the world and is
in Sumatra, Indonesia. Samosir island within the lake is the
island within the island of Sumatra.
Most of the people who live around Lake Toba are
ethnically Bataks. Traditional Batak houses are noted for
their distinctive roofs (which curve upwards at each end,
as a boat's hull does) and their colorful decor.
Most visitors fly to Medan and then travel by land to
Parapat, the town by Lake Toba. Parapat is about 4 hours
by car from Medan (4-6 hours by public bus).

for the Western Indonesia region.

12. Kuala Namu International Airport (also known as New
Medan International Airport) is a new airport under
construction to replace Polonia International Airport.
Polonia airport is the site of several crashes, is
inappropriately located in the center of the city of Medan,
has a difficult takeoff path and has a short runway.
The airport will be Indonesia's second largest, after
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with 65,000 square-
meter passenger terminal and will eventually have a
capacity of 50 million passengers, a figure if realised
today would place the airport in the top 10 busiest by
passenger numbers in the world.

15. MFCP was put into implementation to improve natural
and human environmental conditions by mitigating flood
damage in the flood prone areas along the Deli and Percut
rivers.
This project , covering the entire Medan city and Deli
Serdang district, consists of construction of Medan
Floodway with a length of 3.9km and the improvement
works of the Percut river that covers 28km stretch from
the river mouth.
it includes a subproject for Solid Waste Management
(SWM).
