Question One Magazine Cover
1. QUESTION ONE
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
MAGAZINE COVER
2. COMPARING OUR MAGAZINE COVER
TO OTHER REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS
I will be comparing the forms and conventions of real media
posters within the British Realism genre with my magazine
cover for my film ‘TEMPORARY LIFE’. I will be looking at
other magazine covers which have previously been
analysed and seeing if the forms and conventions of the
posters are similar/dissimilar to my magazine cover.
4. COMPARING THE USE OF IMAGES
In terms of the use of images it is clear
who is the main character just by looking
at the film magazine cover.
Fish Tank features the main female
character placed to one side of the cover.
This is very similar to ours in the sense of
our main character being placed to the
right side of the cover.
A difference between the two magazines
is that the character from Fish Tank is
lower down the cover and further back
compared with the character being close
up to the camera and taking up a lot of
the space of the cover in Temporary Life.
5. COMPARING THE USE OF TEXT
The use of text in both magazine covers shown below are similar in
the sense of the text being located on the left hand side of the cover
with a type of slogan/tagline being the main, bold text for example,
‘21st CENTURY GIRL’ being Fish Tank’s slogan and ‘TRAPPED IN
HER OWN LIFE’ being Temporary Life’s slogan. This will attract more
people in to read the magazine as it creates an enigma.
I also noticed that on the Fish Tank cover they used different fonts for
different taglines and sentences.
We decided to do this for our
magazine cover.
6. COMPARING THE LAYOUT
When planning the layout of the magazine cover we looked at the
Sight and Sound magazine and found the image of the character was
on the right hand side of the cover with the text on the left. We chose
the same layout as it fits in with the conventions of real media
products.
7. LOGOS
In order to make our magazine cover look as
professional as possible we took the logo and
barcode from the actual Sight and Sound magazine.
By using these features and the same conventions
as the Sight and Sound magazine it would enable
our audience to identify with what type of film it is
because of the magazine it is featured in.
