began in Britain during the early 18th century, and ended in the 19th
century. Almost every country participated in this.
3. Migration

✤ The cottage industry is an industry of many manufacturers who work
part time.
✤ There was a migration of people from rural areas to urban areas
during the Industrial Revolution.
✤ People relocated to find work.
4. Agricultural Revolution
✤ This led to the Industrial Revolution because there was a lack of
instruments needed to harvest crops.
✤ Crop rotation is planting different crops in the same areas in different
seasons.
5. Textiles
✤ These are the materials that really made the Industrial Revolution
BOOM.
✤ Textiles are woven materials made up of a network of fibers.
✤ Some inventions that helped to develop textiles popularity were
knitting, weaving, etc.
✤ Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin.
6. Steam Engine
✤ A heating device that uses steam primarily as it’s source of energy.
✤ Thomas Savery invented it in 1690, and James Watt is said to have
improved it.
✤ It was important because it created a reusable water supply.
7. Bessemer Process
✤ First industrial way to produce steel from pig iron.
✤ Henry Bessemer invented it.
✤ It’s important because steel could now be produced in a cost-effective,
safe way.
8. Pasteurization
✤ Louis Pasteur was a French chemist and microbiologist who invented
a way of freezing food.
✤ Pasteurization is important because without it, our food would go
bad and we would lose money.
9. Thomas Edison
✤ He invented the phonograph, motion-picture camera, and of course,
the light bulb.
✤ He had 1,093 patents.

utility, and utility is success.” - Thomas Edison
10. Romanticism
✤ It was an artistic, literary, and intellectual movement during the 18th
century.
✤ It gained strength from the Industrial Revolution.
✤ Two romantic authors were Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel
Hawthorne.
