Alexandre Gustave Eiffel
(born in 15 December 1832 – 27 December
1923)
was a French civil engineer and architect. A
graduate of the prestigious “ École Centrale
des Arts et Manufactures” of France .

He is best known for the world-famous Eiffel
Tower, built for the (1889 Universal Exposition
in Paris) , and his contribution to building the
Statue of Liberty in New York .
After his retirement from engineering, Eiffel
concentrated his energy on research into
meteorology and aerodynamics, making
important contributions in both fields.

20. The Statue of Liberty is one of the best
known American landmarks. It was a gift
to the United States from France to honor
their alliance during the American
Revolution on July 4, 1884 to
commemorate the 100 anniversary of the
American Revolution. It was dedicated on
October 28, 1886.

The Statue of Liberty was designed by the
French sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi.
The figure was formed of copper sheets
wrapped into an iron framework as part of a
support system devised by the French civil
engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel.
