3. 1.What are they?
2.What are they caused by?
3.Are there different kinds of
tide?
4. Tides – What are they?
Tides are the periodic rise and fall
of water level in the sea
5. Tides – Causes
1.gravitational attraction from sun
and moon.
2.centrifugal force due to rotation
of the earth.
6. Tides-causes
1.High tides occurs in those parts
of ocean which face moon.
2.low tide occurs at the same time
in these parts which are at an
angular distance of 90 to the high
tide region.
7. Tides and sun
1. The approximate distance
between the earth and sun is 14.95
million kilometer.
2.It is about 400 times the distance
between earth and moon.
There fore sun’s gravitational force
has less effect on tide.
9. SPRING
TIDE
Types of tides
1.A Tide with a
large range that
occurs two times a
month.(new moon
and full moon)
2. Sun , Earth and
Moon are in a
straight line
position called
sysygy.
10. NEAP TIDE
1.A tide of
minimum ranges
that occurs during
the first and third
quarters of the
moon.
2. The sun, earth
and moon form a
90 angle.
11. CONCLUSION
1.Tides are periodic rise and full of
ocean water
2.Due to gravitational pull of moon ,
sun and centrifugal force of the earth.
3. Mainly two types: spring tide and
neap tide.
12. REVIEW QUESTIONS
1.What ids tide ?
2.What is the dominant force that
cause tide?
3.Where is moon’s pull strongest on
earth?
4.Which is the most important agent
for the occurance of the tide?
5. what is sysygy?
