In 1886, Coca-Cola was invented by a
pharmacist named John Pemberton,
otherwise known as "Doc." He fought in the
Civil War, and at the end of the war he
decided he wanted to invent something that
would bring him commercial success

  • 2. In 1886, Coca-Cola was invented by a pharmacist named John Pemberton, otherwise known as "Doc." He fought in the Civil War, and at the end of the war he decided he wanted to invent something that would bring him commercial success
  • 3. What is it? • Coca-Cola is a carbonated drink introduced in 1886 • Ingredients-sugar -caffeine -phosphoric acid(a mineral acid) -caramel color -natural flavorings -carbonated water • A sweet soft drink sold world wide

Why is it so famous? • People get addicted to caffeine • The Coca-Cola company spends trillions of dollars on advertising • It is delicious and refreshing • It is one of the most bought soft drinks in the world • It used to be used as a medicinal product • You can buy it anywhere • The company is worth $67.5bn and was named the most valuable brand
  • 5. 1886 -First year the Company sold about 9 glasses a day. - The first advertisement appears in the ‘Atlanta Journal’ - Frank Robinson suggest the name Coca Cola and pens the name in Spencerian script which still is used today. 1887 - Free drink coupons are distributed to encourage people to try Coca Cola 1891 -Coca Cola uses for the first time calendars and outside posters for advertising
  • 6. 1893 - The Coca Cola trademark is registered in the U.S patern office. 1894 -Coca Cola is first put into bottles in Vicksburg, Mississippi, by Joseph Biedenharn 1896 - The Coca Cola Company 1895 distributes branded urns en clocks -Coca Cola is sold and consumed in every state and territory of the U.S 1899 -Large scale of bottling begins in Chattanooga, Tennessee 1904 - The first magazine ads for Coca-Cola appears in national consumer publications 1901 -The annual advertising budget for Coca Cola surpasses the $100.000 mark for the first time
  • 7. 1906 - Cuba, Canada and Panama become the first countries outside the U.S to bottle Coca Cola. 1909 - Bottles of Coca-Cola are delivered by hors-drawn cariages 1912 -Copycat beverages try to capitalize on the succes of Coca-Cola 1911 -The annual advertising budget for Coca Cola reaches the $1 million 1916 -The 6,5 ounce refillable glass contour bottle is introduced to distinguish Coca-Cola from competitors. - Though pattend in 1915, the contour bottle was introduced to the public in 1916
  • 8. 1923 1925 - The Coca-Cola sixpack is introduced , this system was purchased for encouraging people to bring Coca-Cola home. - The first billboard from CocaCola appeared 1935 1928 - The first standaridized coin operated vendingmachines are introduced -The IX Olympic games open in Amsterdam, and Coca-Cola has it’s first Olympics 1929 -The bell-shaped glass is adopted as the standard glass for serving Coca-Cola at Soda Fountains. 1931 - The Coca-Cola Santa Clause created by Haddon Sundblom, first appears in advertising
  • 9. 1941 1950 - The elf-like Sprite is introduced to promote the word ‘Coke’ - Coca-Cola becomes the first-ever product that appears on TIME Magazine 1958 -Coca-Cola is a welcome accompaniment to 1950s activities such as bowling, picnics etc. 1955 -The first King-size and Familysize bottles are introduced 1947 - A new sleek look for the CocaCola fountain dispenser

  • 11. 1982 - Diet Coke is introduced 1961 -The Coca-Cola foundation, the company's first philanthropic arm in the U.S is established 1985 -Coca-Cola becomes the first drink appearing in space when an asstronaut tests the ‘Coca-Cola Space Can’ on board of the ‘Space Shuttle Challenger’ 1986 - Coca-Cola exists 100 years!
