1. Web Authoring: Protocols, Design Conventions and Software
In this report I will be discussing the protocols, Design conventions, and software’s used in web
authoring, I will be going through all the details of these things, adding screenshots etc so you can
get a good idea of what these things do.
Web authoring is the creation and maintenance of a website using the HTML layout coding. The
software allows for you to develop a website in a desktop publishing format, Protocols are standard
networking protocol for the internet, TCP Transmission control protocol. The Internet depends on a
number of protocols in order to function properly. A protocol is merely a standard for enabling the
connection, communication, and data transfer between two places on a network.
Web authoring Protocols
There are many Web protocols including; HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket
layer), they are the standard use of a website protocol used between a network. If you look at the
website URL you can see that it will say (Https://www.) that’s because this is most commonly used.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP is used to transfer files across the internet.it is commonly used by
web developers to publish updates to a website ie Facebook, Myspace, youtube ETC. The HTTP is
used for displaying the file in your browser; FTP is simply used to transfer the file from one computer
to a specified location on another computer. You can use FTP to transfer the files from your
computer to a remote computer (such as a web server), or to transfer from the remote computer to
your local computer.
Design Conventions
Logo
Design conventions are things that a good website should use to have a good looking
website. Here are a few examples of design inventions that are normally used. The website
logo is formally placed on the top left of the page, the reasoning behind putting the logo on
the top left is because we naturally look to the left because were used to writing on
websites/books going from left to right. The logo should also be hyperlinked to the
homepage.
Links
Another thing is to make sure that the links are underlined and in a different color than the
textbecause it will make it very easy for the viewer to notice.
2. Fonts
The ideal font to use when creating a website would Sans serif because it makes it very easy for the
viewer to read.
(
Fonts such as Brush
script(brush script)shouldn’t be used for it is very hard to read.
Rule of thirds
The rule of thirds is a very common convention that is used most of the time. In the rule of
thirds, photos are divided into thirds with two imaginary lines vertically and two lines horizontally
making three columns, three rows, and nine sections in the images.
As you can see from the picture on the left, the imaginary
grid makes for the preparation of a photo done using the
rule of thirds. As you can see the focus is on the land area
rather than the sky so the bottom two-thirds of the
photograph are filled with land and the top third is sky.
Here’s another example. The eyes are lined up with the
upper horizontal line and each eye is where the upper
horizontal line intersects with a vertical line.
3. Search bar
Having a website which will have lots of information on should include a search bar, this will make
viewing your website not just more enjoyable, but much easier, main use is that if someone wants
specific information then they can just search it up.
Navigation bar
The navigation bar should be on every page and easily visible, this makes the website easy
to navigate and it should be included on every website.
Colour Schemes
There are three main colour schemes; Monochromatic, Analogous, and complimentary. The
colour schemes reflect on the nature of the website. First of all you have the
Monochromatic colour scheme; this involves the use of one colour but it can be
manipulated into different shades, tones and tints of that one colour. Next you have the
Analogous colour scheme; this involves the use of similar colours on the colour wheel. Lastly
you have the complimentary colour scheme; this involves the use of colours that are
adjacent to each other. Have a little look at the colour wheel provided.
Software
One software that is quite commonly used and is easy to use is HTML editor online, this
website creating software is very basic, allows for you to create cool website designs.
Another website creator you can use is Web creator Pro, Now this programme is very hard
to use and to get used to, it is very complicated so I’d say to stick with HTML editor online.
HTML Stands for Hypertext Mark-up Language, HTML is important because it needs to be used
so that you can have a website that has things on there. HTML elements form the building
blocks of all websites, HTML allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create
4. interactive forms. Also used to arrange graphics on a webpage, to link to different pages within a
website. HTML
Conclusion
In conclusion this report has looked at several different aspects of Web Authoring, including
what websites should have to be a good website; Logo’s, Links, Fonts, Rule of thirds, Search
and navigation bar and one of the most important ones which is your websites colour
scheme. For my website im going to be using dark/gothic/evil colours such as Black, Grey,
Red, Dark blue ETC. I’ve also told you what Software you should use so that you have an
easier time creating a website. What I have learnt from this assignment is the way a website
should be created, what’s involved, how I should do things. ETC. I can use this in my own
work so I can work at the best of my ability
