Procedures for 2013-2014
Single Subject
Acceleration
• In March of 2013, a district level committee approved criteria for
SSA which allows students to accelerate in English/Language
Arts OR Mathematics.
• As a result of student portfolio reviews at the school and district
level as part of the SSA process, as well as parental input, the SSA
criteria were reexamined by the Central Services Committee
and district leadership.
History of SSA
• Score of 80% on the comprehensive, district benchmark
assessment for the course/content to be skipped in Mathematics
OR
• Score of 85% on the comprehensive, district benchmark
assessment for the course/content to be skipped in
English/Language Arts/Reading
Revised Criteria
• AIG Central Services sent letters to students nominated Spring
2013 with qualifying scores on the comprehensive assessment in
the course/content to be skipped
• Parents or teachers may nominate students for this accelerative
practice no later than the first five days of school so that testing
and any resulting placement may occur before the first ten days
of the 2013-2014 school year.
Specifics of Nominations
1. Students who have already qualified for SSA based on the revised
criteria have received notification from Central Services. Schools
should collect parent notification letters and plan for resources to
deliver content.
2. Appropriately place students identified for SSA; plan for delivery of
content to qualifying students.
Two options for placement:
• Service delivery options are a school-based decision.
– Face-to-face instruction with an appropriately certified teacher who will teach
the course
– On-line course; the on-line instruction will follow the traditional calendar.
Process for SSA 2013-2014
3. Teachers and/or parents may nominate students for SSA in
writing for only one subject. Please include child’s name, area
of nomination (either ELA OR Mathematics), and grade level.
4. Schools will determine testing schedule.
5. Schools will schedule and administer the appropriate
comprehensive, district benchmark assessment in the ONE area
of nomination for the course to be skipped on the following.
Process for SSA 2013-2014
6. Scores will be reported to Central Services, and the AIG Central
Services team will disseminate scores to the schools.
7. AIG teachers will notify parents/students of the results.
8. Students will be placed in the proper class/course within the first ten
days of school.
9. AIG teachers will communicate with parents of students who do not
meet the criteria.
10. Students will not be accelerated if they transfer to WCPSS after the
testing window or nominated after the first five days of school. These
students may be nominated for acceleration, but will not complete
the process until the 2014-2015 school year.

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. The initial criterion was based upon multiple indicators including formal test data and individual student performance data.
  2. In order to qualify for SSA in either Mathematics OR English/Language Arts, students must meet this requirement.
  3. We will continue to add to this document as questions arise.
