3. Scrub
Ancient coastal dunes
deposited during the
Pleistocene sea-level changes.
• Likely the oldest plant community in Florida.
data taken from pollen profiles in lake and pond sediments, a
community much like the modern scrub was in central
Florida about 5,000 years ago.
• 40-60% of the plants in the scrub are endemic

5. Annonaceae
Annonaceae is primarily a tropic family
and characteristic of low wetland
forests. (Judd et al. 2001)
Asimina is the sole temperate genus.
12. Current work on A. tetramera
• ISSRs run to investigate the
variability of the 3 major
A. tetramera populations
13.
14. Asimina reticulata
• Leaves
more fibrous
strongly curled
rounded tips
• Flower

17. In the Lab
• Primers optimized, and ISSRs run on a
Beckman CEQ8000 sequencer.
- optimized intensities
- Samples run in duplicate
• Matrices analyzed using Genographer,
PopGene, and GenalEX

22. Summary of trends
• A larger proportion of the the total
variance in tetramera can be explained
by within population diversity.
• The degree of within population
variance vacillates in tetramera as a
result of the number of fixed alleles.
25. CONSERVATION
GAME PLAN
• Analyze all know small populations in
search of unique alleles (lineages?)
• Understand patterns of out-crossing for
translocation & hand pollination.
• Identify areas of suitable habitat
