EHSAL is a University College providing a wide range of academic and professional degree courses, which relate to the fields of study of either Education, Health & Social Work or Economics & Management. EHSAL is located on 4 campuses in/near Brussels.  The language of instruction is mainly Dutch. Some of the programmes are offered in English, for example this International Class. EHSAL offers Bachelor as well as Master courses and has two faculties, i.e. the Faculty of Economics & Management and the Faculty of Education, Health Care and Social Work.  The Faculty of Education, Health Care and Social Work offers 10 professional bachelor's degree programmes: teacher training, nursery education, primary education, secondary education, nursing, occupational therapy, optics & optometrics, medical imaging, social work, orthopedagogy. MODULE 1 : COMMUNICATION, EMOTION AND EXPRESSION   Teachers: Denise Nieuwejaers en Ludo Vandael (KdG, Antwerp) Period: 11 - 29 February 2008 The 3 topics are: communication, expression and emotion by confrontation in nature, self exploration and cooperation with other people.  Week 1: a 4 days outdoor-living-together program with activities in nature (walking, orientation, speleo or rockclimbing, …), cooperation activities (problem solving tasks,…), housekeeping (cooking, …),…  Week 2:  Youth Subcultures. There are many ways to express your emotions, feelings, dreams. A lot of young people do this by music, clothing, nonverbal and verbal language. We will explore in group different youth subcultures. Working in groups.
MODULE 2 : FLEMISH CULTURE AND EXPRESSION   Teachers: Steven Debaere and Hilde Mouton (KHBO, Bruges) Period: 3 - 21March 2008 Focus on Flanders and Brussels, but it's important to put everything in a Belgian and European context. We will give background information concerning the following topics: The historic borders of Flanders and Belgium; Dutch, the language of twenty-two million Dutch and Flemish people; Belgian federalisation; The political landscape of Flanders nowadays; Contemporary Arts; Victor Horta and the Art Nouveau Movement in Belgium; Jacques Brel, a 'famous Belgian'; The highlights of Flemish paintings; Bruges, the medieval past in the present; Flanders during the First and Second World War.
MODULE 3 : DIVERSITY AND EDUCATION Teacher: Ann Crivits (KHK, Vorselaar) Period: 7 – 18 April 2008 The module wants to establish an understanding and awareness of equality and diversity and to enable students to critically reflect on and challenge perceptions, attitudes and practices that promote prejudice and discrimination. During this module participants examine the origin of our multi-cultural society and acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide education from an intercultural perspective. In this course the students will receive information and practical experience with the didactics of second language acquisition (Dutch). The theory will be combined with a practical examination about the situation of diversity in Brussels.

EHSAL is a University College providing a wide range of academic and professional degree courses, which relate to the fields of study of either Education, Health & Social Work or Economics & Management. MODULE 1 : COMMUNICATION, EMOTION AND EXPRESSION Teachers: Denise Nieuwejaers en Ludo Vandael (KdG, Antwerp) Period: 11 - 29 February 2008 The 3 topics are: communication, expression and emotion by confrontation in nature, self exploration and cooperation with other people. Week 1: a 4 days outdoor-living-together program with activities in nature (walking, orientation, speleo or rockclimbing, …), cooperation activities (problem solving tasks,…), housekeeping (cooking, …),… Week 2: Youth Subcultures. There are many ways to express your emotions, feelings, dreams. A lot of young people do this by music, clothing, nonverbal and verbal language. We will explore in group different youth subcultures. Working in groups.

MODULE 2 : FLEMISH CULTURE AND EXPRESSION Teachers: Steven Debaere and Hilde Mouton (KHBO, Bruges) Period: 3 - 21March 2008 Focus on Flanders and Brussels, but it's important to put everything in a Belgian and European context. We will give background information concerning the following topics: The historic borders of Flanders and Belgium; Dutch, the language of twenty-two million Dutch and Flemish people; Belgian federalisation; The political landscape of Flanders nowadays; Contemporary Arts; Victor Horta and the Art Nouveau Movement in Belgium; Jacques Brel, a 'famous Belgian'; The highlights of Flemish paintings; Bruges, the medieval past in the present; Flanders during the First and Second World War.

MODULE 3 : DIVERSITY AND EDUCATION Teacher: Ann Crivits (KHK, Vorselaar) Period: 7 – 18 April 2008 The module wants to establish an understanding and awareness of equality and diversity and to enable students to critically reflect on and challenge perceptions, attitudes and practices that promote prejudice and discrimination. During this module participants examine the origin of our multi-cultural society and acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide education from an intercultural perspective. In this course the students will receive information and practical experience with the didactics of second language acquisition (Dutch). The theory will be combined with a practical examination about the situation of diversity in Brussels.
