the running of the library.

2. Main duties are shelving & issue desk
• Prefect checklist
• In order of importance
• What can I do to help out?
• -Check the library for rubbish
• -Push in computer chairs
• -Check library for rubbish
• -Arrange trolley for shelving (alphabetical order)
• -Someone at desk
• -Tidy magazines on top of returns box
• -Check returns box
• -Tidy fiction shelves
• -Check books are in their correct places
• -Process new books
• -Help customers
• -Tidy the library
• -Anything Ms O’Shea asks (within reason) !

3. Our resources:
• Senior & junior fiction, non-fiction
• Graphic novels, comics & manga
• SEN collection: books for low ability readers
• Newspapers (digital & print) & magazines
• Revision resources
• Local history collection
• Picture books
• DVD’s
• Staff library

4. POINTS TO REMEMBER:
• The Library has about 1000’s of books plus other
resources such as DVDs, newspapers, journals,
etc.
• Fiction books are shelved in alphabetical order
by the author’s surname
• Non-fiction books are shelved in numerical order
and have a Dewey (or Class) number

5. How can working in the library help
me?
• Work experience
• Customer service skills (issue desk)
• Will provide a reference at the end if you do
well
• Library skills (organisation, fiction knowledge
• Role model to younger students
• Suggest books you want to see in library
• Use of catalogue software

6. Catch up with news, book lists, reviews,
new websites, etc on our library blog

7. You can search for books using our library

subject area & to borrow and browse from our

8. Library desk
-No phones/chewing gum
- Friendly attitude
- Scan carefully
- Put books on rerun trolley
- Alphabetise books & shelve
- Proactive, if it is quiet please tidy etc
-Emptying returns box (Sixth form)

9. If you can’t attend duty
I expect a professional attitude.
Please let me know in advance & rearrange your
duty where possible.
