The Plains Indians believed in The Great Spirit Wakan Tanka as the supreme creator. They viewed the world and life as circular with no beginning or end. Certain lands were sacred and they believed in an afterlife called the Happy Hunting Ground. Visions provided spiritual guidance and dances and ceremonies honored their beliefs and maintained connections to the spirit world.
