3. ABOUT: CHOPTA VALLEY
The trip in the Chopta Valley, located in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand, is set to
walk one through picturesque villages, forests and ‘Bugyals’ (meadows) to highlight serene locales like
‘Deoriyatal’, ‘Tungnath’& ‘Chandrashila’. The valley is home to the rare and the beautiful ‘Monal’
(pheasant), ‘Kastoori Hiran’ (musk deer) and the elusive leopards along with a variety of other wildlife.
The locale offers amazing views of the imposing Himalayan range. On this trip one can see many
famous peaks including the Gangotri and Bhagirathi group of peaks, KedarDome, Chaukhamba, Hathi
Parbat, Dhunagiri and the Nanda Devi group of peaks. It is situated amidst thick forest of pine, deodar
and rhododendrons with an altitude ranging from approx 2400 mts – 4060 mts.

4. ABOUT: CHOPTA VALLEY
A lake, Deoriyatal faces a snow clad range with some prominent
peaks like the ‘KedarDome’ (6970m), ‘Mahalaya’ (5970m),
‘Mandani’ (6190m) and the mighty ‘Chaukhambha’ (7140m).
Chandrashila, at the summit of Tungnath, is a trekking peak at a
height of about 4060mts above sea level, with a spectacular view
of the Himalayas. As per one of the popular legends, this is the
place where Lord Rama meditated after defeating the demon-king
Ravana. Another legend says that moon-god Chandra spent time
here in penance. -4-

5. ITINERARY: CHOPTA VALLEY
Day 1: Haridwar / Rishikesh– Chopta
(Distance: 250km/220km, Travel Time: 6- 7 hrs
Elevation: Chopta: approx. 2,800m/9,000ft)
Depart from Haridwar/Rishikesh early morning and
commence our drive to the Chopta Valley via
Devprayag – Srinagar – Rudraprayag –
Agastyamuni. From Chopta we hike 20 mins to
“Bujghali Bugyal’ where we set up base camp.
Overnight at Camp
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch en route, Dinner at camp
Day 2: Chopta – Sari - Deoriyatal
(Distance: 45km/3km-hike, Travel Time: 2-3 hrs
Elevation: Deoriyatal: 2,438m/8,000ft)
After an early breakfast, we drive to Sari Village
from where we start the short hike to Deoriyatal.
Spend the afternoon at the lake with splending
views of high himalayan peaks amidst pristine forest
of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. Head back to
base camp by the evening for overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner at camp, Packed Lunch at
Deoriyatal.

6. ITINERARY: CHOPTA VALLEY
Day 3: Chopta – Tungnath - Chandrashila
(Distance: 3.5km/1.5km – 5km, Travel Time: 6- 7 hrs
Elevation: Tungnath: 3,680m/12,073ft, Chandrashila:
4,060m/13,320ft)
Start the hike from base camp post breakfast to
Tungnath, amongst the highest Shiva shrines in the
world and from there we hike up to Chandrashila,
the highest point of the trek with panoramic view
of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Hike back to
base camp for overnight stay.
Note: We also have the second option of a 3:30 am
departure to catch the sunrise at Chandrashila
before visiting the Tungnath temple.

Day 4: Chopta – Rishikesh / Haridwar
(Distance: 250km/220km, Travel Time: 6- 7 hrs
After an early breakfast, we start the drive back to
reach Rishikesh or Haridwar by the afternoon/early
evening. Proceed for onward journey by bus/train or
overnight stay as per plan.

7. +ADD ON: CAMP GANGA RIVIERA
Situated on the banks of the mighty Ganga, Camp Ganga
Riviera is our isolated beach & jungle camp, located at a
distance of 2 km from the nearest road head at Mahedev
Chatti, 40 km from Rishikeshon the Badrinath highway.
The camp offers a great opportunity to relax and being
among the largest camps on the river, offer a whole range of
adventure activities for one to indulge in and unwind.
For those opting for the camp add on, the revised itinerary:
Day 4: Chopta – Devprayag – Camp Ganga Riviera
(Distance: 190km/30km, Travel Time: 7-8 hrs
After an early breakfast, we start the drive back to reach
Devprayag by noon. From Devprayag we get into rafts
and enjoy a calm and relaxing stretch of white water
rafting to Camp Ganga Riviera
Overnight at Camp
Meals: Breakfast and Dinnerat camp, Packed Lunch
Day 5: Camp Ganga Riviera - Rishikesh
(Distance: 40km, Travel Time: 4-5 hrs – Rafting Stretch)
Today we indulge in 2 sections of rafting, some of the
best white water rapids that the Ganga has to offer.
Packed lunch post rafting and departure as per plan.
