2. Definition
The most common sexually transmitted disease in
the United States, which primarily infects the
reproductive tract and is caused by the
bacterium (Anne Lynn S Chang )

3. What are the symptoms?
For women:
• “increased or abnormal vaginal discharge”
• “Pain or a burning feeling when urinating”
• “Irritation or itching around the vagina”
• “Bleeding after sexual intercourse or other abnormal vaginal bleeding”
• “Pain in the lower abdomen or lower back, nausea, or fever, if the infection has spread to the
uterus or fallopian tubes (where eggs move from the ovaries to the uterus)”
For men
• “A clear, white, or yellowish discharge from the penis”
• “A burning feeling when urinating”
• “Burning or itching around the opening of the penis”
• “Pain or swelling of the testicles”

4. How do you get it?
You get it by sexual intercourse. “It is caused by a
bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis that infects cells
on mucosal surfaces, such as the genital tract, urinary
tract, anorectal tract, eyes, and throat.”

5. How do you prevent it?
By not having sexual intercourse.

6. How do you treat it?
• “A patient receives antibiotic therapy”
• “Uncomplicated chlamydia infection can be treated effectively with
antibiotics such as doxycycline, azithromycin, erythromycin, or ofloxacin.”
• A patient with risk factors for STDs or symptoms of the disease is treated
presumptively with antibiotic therapy, even before the results of laboratory
tests for chlamydia return.

7. Journal
I don’t know anything from my assigned STD. I do
know that STD are bad for your health. I know
that some can’t get cured and if not treated in
time some can be deadly. You can get them by
oral, and vaginal sex. You can sometimes get
them by kissing. I also know that some can be
treated and cured.
I learned that it is the most common sexually
transmitted disease in the United States. I think
that people should be more careful when it
comes to the STDs.
