1. Internet Marketing ‐ Dealing With Information Overload
If you are just starting your journey of learning internet marketing
and investigating the tips, tricks, and techniques involved, you could
find yourself becoming quickly overloaded with information. All the
terms. All the rules. All those tasks to do and things to remember.
Marketing in today’s world of immediate results and incredible
amounts of information at our fingertips provides the perfect recipe
for stress. Don’t be dismayed. Calm down and take a look through
these tips to keep your sanity while finding your way through the
jungle of internet marketing strategies.
Prioritize
Decide what’s most important for your fledgling enterprise.
Undoubtedly you have compiled a list of all those things you could
and should be doing but how can you possibly find the time to
accomplish them all? The truth is, you can’t – at least not within a
reasonable amount of time. Take that list and prioritize each of the
tasks listed.
For instance, there is probably little you can do to market your
business until you have a website published on the internet. So it is
top priority to choose a domain name and hosting package, then hire
someone to provide the design or do it yourself. First things first. You
have to something to market before you can begin marketing.

3. Learning Internet Marketing – Focus On Your Plan Of Attack
When you are learning internet marketing, it’s easy to get
overwhelmed when you look at a list of tasks as a whole. How are
you ever going to get through that long list? Try grouping them
according to various factors such as “design”, “development”, “SEO”,
“social media” and the like. Pick one category to work on in a single
week.
If you’ve designated this week to concentrate on marketing through
social media, then stay on task. Open an account at Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. and spend some time browsing through the
options and setting up your profile. Add some posts, look for friends
and followers.
You need to have an internet marketing plan, select your focus and
perform each task thoroughly to prevent backtracking.
Define Your Goals
What is your ultimate goal in regards to internet marketing? This is
an important question that will help you both in priortising and
narrowing your focus. If you are seeking to quickly monetise your
website through affiliate marketing, then your list of goals is going to
be different than it would for a blog where you offer an e‐Book
you’ve personally authored for sale. The different types of business

4. require joining different forums, building links at different sites, and
generating completely different content.
Learn While You Earn
Yes, it is important to stay on top of internet marketing trends, but
unless this is your full‐time job it is unlikely this is a real possibility.
Break down the task of educating yourself into doable segments. You
may even want to designated one day a week that you spend reading
through blog posts, a book, or forum messages in order to gain
knowledge. Find an author you trust and follow their updates. Add
an RSS feed to make this easier.
There is a lot of information available online about learning internet
marketing. Information overload is almost a given, but you can avoid
this pitfall by utilizing the tips provided here.
2. Time Management Tips For Internet Marketers
A common challenge for internet marketers is time management.
Working from home with no boss guarding over you can be difficult if
you don’t have the discipline to plan and execute your time
effectively. Pretty much every internet marketer i speak to was
attracted in some way to internet marketing for the life style
opportunity, and many solely in allure of a “4 hour work week” and

5. endless beach vacations. Truth is, most marketers end up
significantly increasing their work hours without any significant
increase to their income. That is unless, they master the skill of using
time effectively.
Notice I didn’t say time management. You see you cannot manage
time nor do you need to, time is what it is. It runs at the same pace
each and every day. It is therefore what you do in that time that is
important.
“Work expands to fill the time available” – Parkinson’s law
The first thing to understand is that tasks will take as long as you
decide. Have you ever noticed how a deadline speeds up your
productivity and almost forces you to get a task done fast? Set a goal
a month out and it will take you a month, set it a week out and your
mind will get to work on finding a way to get it done in a week.
Impose self enforced deadlines and goals and stick to them. Not only
will it increase your productivity but it will also give you a great
amount of satisfaction as you hit your goals. I set yearly, monthly,
weekly and daily goals and review them continually to keep me
focused on the outcomes I want.
What gets scheduled gets done

6. Human beings are proven to work far more efficiently when
following a routine or timetable. I spend an hour once a week
planning out the upcoming 7 days and use that time to schedule in
my goals, meetings, deadlines and most importantly time off. In fact,
I suggest time off is the first thing that you block in your calendar as
if not it will be the first thing that gets cut. Don’t let that happen.

gets priority? Firstly take a piece of paper and at the top write your
number 1 objective (your long term goal). Then divide the piece of
paper in to 2 columns. On the left hand side write Important, on the
right side write Urgent. Beneath the important header write all your
long term progressive tasks that are important to your business,
beneath the urgent header write all your short term often smaller
tasks.
First go through the list and find all that can be delegated. Once you
have done that number each of the remaining tasks in order of
importance to your objective.
Items appearing towards the top of both lists get done first, followed
by those on the important list and lastly the urgent list.

It is really important that you have one central place for all your
ideas and “to dos.” My preferred tool is the mac application called
Things. It allows me to dump my ideas as soon as they enter my head
and then forget about them. Later I go through my in box of items,
sort them in to projects and schedule items with deadlines. This is
my central store from which i take to do items and create my
schedule for the forthcoming month, week or day.
Plan each day the night before
You should never start a day until it is planned out on paper in the
morning, yet a miraculous thing happens when you the plan your day
the night before. Your mind gets to work subconsciously on the tasks
ahead. Make a commitment to plan out the following day before you
get to bed and you will wake in the morning laser focused with many
of the challenges of the day already solved.
For listing my daily items I use a white board that sits write next to
my desk. As I complete each item i wipe it from the white board. The
satisfaction from wiping out each item will keep you motivated as
you clear the list. White boards are also great for planning out
projects.

8. My preferred tool is iCal for Mac. If you have a PC there are also
various calendar programs available. The reason I like iCal is that it
worked seamlessly with Things (using drag and drop functionality)
and imports event using RSS from Basecamp. It also works on both
my iphone and Mac, meaning I can schedule items on either and
both devices are updated.
Take regular breaks
In order to maintain your energy levels you need to be taking regular
breaks. Use a desk top timer or stop watch and set it to 50 minutes.
Turn off all distractions, such as email, Facebook and your phone and
work intensely for 50 minutes. When the timer reaches 50 minutes
get up and take a 10 minute break, even if you are in the middle of
doing something. I generally work seven 50 minute slots per day,
three in the morning, two in the afternoon and two in the evening
each separated by longer breaks when i will go to the gym, beach,
read a book or any other activity I love doing. This sort of discipline
and focus will do wonders for your productivity.
3. How to Stay Motivated and Enthusiastic About Your Internet
Marketing Endeavour
When you’re hammering along trying to build an online business it
can be tough, and at times it can be demoralizing. You spend hours

9. and hours working or what feels like working only to find you’ve
been spinning your wheels and you’ve yet to earn a dime.
First of all… don’t give up! You CAN do it, and being motivated and
enthusiastic is an important part of being able to stick with it long
enough to have success.
Have I ever told you my first 30 some‐odd lenses at Squidoo didn’t
make a dime? (and probably still don’t.) If I’d given up after 25
lenses… or even 29… I never would
be where I am today… but the key is being able to find a way to stay
motivated, and stay excited about the possibilities…
A. Reconnect with your WHY.
Yeah it sounds hokey and silly… but if you don’t know WHY (and I
mean a why that’s bigger than making money) you’re doing
something what’s going to help you stick with it?
I had a little meeting with myself in my notebook this morning over
this very topic. I’ve been feeling a little unmotivated lately, a little
less than enthusiastic. I started asking myself some questions about
why I’m working from home, why I’m working on the projects I’m
working on right now… and quickly realized I had no idea WHY I was
doing what I’m doing right now. DAMN.

No wonder a clear path isn’t forming for me, because I’m not clear
about where I’m trying to go and why I’m trying to get there. The
why is a huge piece of this puzzle. When times get tough, if you don’t
know why you’re sitting on your ass all these hours in front of this
screen… you’re not going to have any reason to stay.
Assignment:
Set aside 30 minutes. Get a journal (piece of paper, whatever) and a
pen. Yes, we’re doing this old school! And ask yourself some
questions… Ask yourself , WHY you’re doing this. Why. Why.Why.
When you answer the question, ask why again… get to the heart of
your why. You’ll know when you get there because you’ll get all
excited and tingly. :)
Don’t just skip the assignment… if you want to get the enthusiasm
back in your business ~ do it.
B. Say what you really mean.
It’s so easy to go middle of the road, to not take a stand, to not go to
the edges where our beliefs are a little outside the main stream… it’s
easy to play it safe and stay in the middle. Stop it.

11. When you stay in the middle you are mediocre. You don’t stand up.
You don’t stand out. You’re forgettable. I still struggle with this…
there are definitely opinions
I have that I don’t share for fear of ________________… go ahead
and fill in the blank.
It’s true you may offend people, you may make them mad, you may
drive some people away. Here’s the truth about that though, they
weren’t your people. Your true people are the ones who will
resonate and love you even MORE because you stepped out there
and said what you said. You spoke your truth, and they will love you
for it.
I’m not talking about stepping up and shouting about your
political/religious beliefs (unless you have a website related to those
topics lol). But in every industry,
every niche there are things that we feel strongly about… talk about
those things. Step out of the middle of the road.
C. Connect with others.
I can’t tell you how amazing it is to have 1 or 2 people I know I can
call and by the end of the conversation I’m feeling more excited and

12. ready to get back to work.
I’m revved up again. One or two people work for me ~ as an
introvert. If you’re an extrovert ~ get yourself out there, in forums,
communities ~ fill yourself up and connect with people who are
doing what you’re doing. That kind of group energy can restore your
depleted enthusiasm, and help you get back to work.
D. Connect with others.
Yeah, I’m saying it again… but differently this time. Connect with
other people in your niche. You can NOT do this alone. You need
some help, a network, people you can count on to help you out, and
who you can help out as well. It’s easy enough to get started… just
start visiting their blogs. Regularly leave comments… hell send them
an email! That’s how it starts. By putting yourself in their line of
sight, regularly, and consistently you’ll get their attention. This is how
relationships are formed. Don’t ask for anything… don’t try to get
something from them. Just connect and get to know each other. I
can’t tell you how many people I’ve met this way, and when
something comes up ~ I’m happy to to help them, whether it’s put a
link in a post to something they’re working on, to doing an interview,
to being an affiliate…the options are endless, but you’ve got to have
a network ~ and that starts with a simple connection. So get out
from behind your dashboard and your link building and get to know
people. The people you connect with can end up being worth so
much more than any link you’re trying to build on your own.

13. E. Get a coach.
If you are fumbling, and stumbling and things aren’t making sense,
and you feel like you’re running in circles and getting no where fast,
it’s going to be easy to lose your enthusiasm, and motivation. There
are a LOT of moving pieces to make internet marketing work… and if
you’re new to the game the best thing you can do is get a coach. A
coach can help you avoid the huge potholes in the road, and help
you create a plan of action that will work for YOU (which is key). One
size does NOT fit all in the internet marketing arena, so a
personalized plan, and someone who will be there to help you walk
through it is key. Talk to the person before you decide to have them
coach you… send them an email, ask them how the program works,
what they’ll do for you, and what they’ll expect from you. Make sure
it’s going to be a good fit before you get started, but get started.
You’ll thank yourself for spending the money.
