2. Natural Born Killers
lighting and costume
The opening scene flickers in and out of black and white
to color through out. this is very effective as we focus on
the black and white scenes they seem to be an illusion
which links to the thriller genre in the sense that it plays
with your mind. Another example is when the
opening scene flashes from black and white with low
lighting ( which is highlighting the born killers in a very
subtle way) to a red/orange tint. ( which is highlighting
the victims) the scene is filmed in the red/ orange tint.
Another point is when the camera is shooting the train
sections just after the opening scene the colour usage in
that could be indicating various emotions for the
audience because of the connotations of the color red,
this could be signifying that the lighting could be
indicating fear or the signs of approaching danger.

3. These three images clearly show the scenes which flick from black
and white to colour which give the effect of an illusion which tricks
with your mind which relates back to the thriller genre.

4. Costume
During the first few minuets I focused on the two main
characters costumes. One male the other being
female, the costumes signified there characters as
killers. Firstly the male costume related to a cowboy
which fits in with his surrounding as the opening scene
is based in a bar in the desert. The male charcter is
represented in pink tinted glasses with a scruffy greasy
ponytail hair style this represent the character as being
rough and untamed which helps the audience relate to
his background throughout the film. On the other hand
the female character is dress in very minimal clothing
this indicated that the character is trying to portray the
idea across to the audience that she is sexy to add to
her costume she has tattoos and heavy makeup with a
thick layer of red lipstick. Her hair style gives of the
impression that her character is quite childish although
mixed with the other features of her outfit connotes to
her being quite slutty.

5. Cowboy style for the male character whilst the
female character is portrayed to be sexy in the
minimal clothing red lipstick and pigtails.

6. props and setting
The setting is made evident at the beginning that it is based in a desert like
surrounding. The main action during the beginning sections of the film take
place within a bar on the outskirts of a dirt road. various props are used to
indicate the storyline, a newspaper with 666 deaths on it draws attention to the
potential narrative of what the film may be focused around hinting and relating
back to the thriller genre. Although the males tinted glasses can be noted as
costume it is also a prop in the way that it is displaying the type of character he
could be.

8. Facial Expression/ Body
language
through out the first scenes there is a drastic change in
expressions and postures through the characters. For example
when the shootings start to happen the expression and posture of
the ones being shot change from cheerful to terrified, some put
their hands up in fear to show surrender this signifies there is a
hierarchy and the ones with guns are the bosses connoting to
badies. meanwhile The female main character finds it amusing
whilst the others are afraid this also shows who the dominate
characters our this is made clear through Her body language which
comes across as very confident; she dances with the strangers in a
way that is meant to be sexy which links back to her costume which
also connoted a sexy attitude.
