This document discusses several topics relating to healthcare data analysis and population health science at Mayo Clinic. It describes a study on using home telemonitoring of elderly patients to prevent hospital readmissions. The study found telemonitoring reduced deaths but did not significantly reduce emergency department visits or hospitalizations compared to usual care. It also discusses the AWARE system developed at Mayo Clinic to improve critical care quality and outcomes using real-time data analytics. AWARE was found to reduce medical errors and time spent on tasks by clinicians. Finally, the document presents an overview of Optum Labs and its goals of facilitating collaborative health services research using integrated data to improve patient care and lower costs.
