4. Sugar
The color is light
yellow, small, and
clustered. It hangs
from a long slender
2 inch stem,
appearing with or a
shade before the
leaves in early
spring.
6. Black Locust
It has Light brown.
It’s about 2 to 4
inches long,
containing 4 to 8
kidney-shaped,
smooth, red-brown
seeds. It has a
mellow in the fall.
8. Eastern Cottonwood
Its a large tree with a clear
trunk. It looks like an open
spreading crown resulting
in a somewhat vase-shaped
form. Simple, leaflet
arranged, 3 to 6 inches
long, triangular in shape
with a round-toothed
margin.
10. Red Cedar
In contrast to the flattened
branchlets of the Northern
White-Cedar, scales on fully
grown Red-Cedars cover the
rounded branchlets on 4
sides such as the stems
appear square. Also, unlike
other similar trees in Ohio,
the small fruit of the Red
Cedar is well covered, making
it look more like a berry than
a cone.
11. Honey Locust
A very particular, 6 to 8
inches long, red-brown,
leathery capsule that
becomes dry and twisted.
The pod contains many
oval, dark brown. It has
shiny seeds about 1/3
inch long. It’s full grown
in late summer and early
fall.
