This document describes a study on optimally placing custom power devices like DSTATCOM, DVR, and UPQC in a power system network to balance loads and voltages when unbalanced loads are connected. An artificial neural network is trained to determine the optimal location for placing these devices. Case studies were performed on the IEEE 14-bus test system in MATLAB. Simulation results showed that the proposed method can effectively determine optimal device placement to balance voltages caused by unbalanced loads connected at different buses.
