Presentation at the London College of Fashion's conference on "On-Line Retail for the small fashion business". Looking at the future for internet retailing - not so much from the perspective of retailer 'push' to customers, but from the perspective of a savvy, sophisticated customer who's using mobile, data, augmented reality - in short every capability available to them at zero cost - in order to manage their interaction with brands and retailers. The presentation builds on previous work (also available on Slideshare.net/ikj ) on epiphenomenology, mcommerce and the Obama-Preedy Pricing Principle.

Ved Ian Jindal, Internet retailing Ian will look at the role of Facebook in supporting customer's desire to engage with the brand, widgets and actually "doing things" as well as marketing. How can online retailers move towards a commercial and sustainable model. Ian willl look at the commercial opportunities on Facebook, as well as considering why we might use facebook rather than, say, trying to bring people to our own sites (ie 'old fashioned marketing').

Innovation in Retail - attention economy, social commerce and epiphenomenology

A presentation to the Bazaarvoice "Social Commerce Summit" (http://www.socialcommercesummit.co.uk) in London, November 2008. This presentation built upon my address to the e-consultancy.com "Future of Digital Marketing" conference, taking a particular look at how data and data exchange underpin not only social commerce on the web, but lead to greater insights as the 'network effect' takes over. The 'data evolution' is outlined as: • Data evolution – accurate – enriched – meta – actionable – mashed – semantic – autonomous & - predictive (Slide 6). Two trends come together: 1) better data (eg behavioural and attention/behavioural profiling), and 2) freer exchange (eg via standard like APML and microformats). The implications from these trends are that: - you only see part of the picture - the _customer_ only ever sees part of the picture - the complete picture is both 'in the network', modal and contextual - this openness and exchange at a data level also requires new business approaches - the battle for businesses is to get the maximal share of (qualified, appropriate, profitable) attention. Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.
