Corrupted Drivers - Does Repairing Registry Corruption
                 Also Fix Corrupted Drivers
Corrupted drivers cause many problems with a computer's performance. Many of these problems
will look the same as problems caused by registry corruption. However, corrupted drivers and
corrupted registry files are two different things. What is the difference and how do we know which
problem our computer is having? In this article, we will answer these questions.
The Device Driver

A driver is actually a software package more precisely known as a device driver. As its name
implies, it is the software that runs a peripheral device hooked to your computer. The prototypical
such peripheral device is your printer. The printer driver is a device driver. However, drivers are
also needed for DVD drives and your mouse. Though some of these things seem to be a part of
your computer, as opposed to something outside of it, they are still peripheral devices. In other
words, they are not a part of what we would once call the mainframe.
Drivers are also needed to operate software packages. Though this may sound ironic, software
packages are not a part of the computer and need an interpreter to communicate with the Windows
operating system. It is the software package that acts as this interpreter. When you install a
software package, such as a game or video editing software, it is the device driver part of the
software package that becomes part of the operating system.
Corrupt and Outdated
It is possible for device drivers to become corrupted. It is also possible for them to become
outdated. How can this happen? Software packages and Windows, itself, are often upgraded. Once
they are, they become newer versions of their old selves. However, the driver does not get updated
when Windows updates, so the device driver may no longer act as the perfect interpreter from
Windows to the software package.
When this happens, the driver must be updated or the computer's performance will suffer when the
upgraded software is run. This is one of the differences between corrupted registry files and
corrupted drivers. Corrupted registry files not only cause a computer to run slowly, but they cause
a computer to boot up slowly and shutdown slowly, as well.
Corrupted or outdated drivers make a computer's performance suffer when the particular software
or hardware they work with are being used. Also, if you get an error message about a driver having
trouble, it is probably a bad driver causing this error message. On the other hand, registry
corruption tends to send error messages to your screen that are not accurate.
In recent years, it has become very important to run a registry cleaner regularly. Now, the device
driver updater, or device driver scanner is gaining in popularity. This is because it will update
device drivers automatically. This is a very worthwhile feature. However, a device driver updater
must work alongside a registry cleaner because these two valuable pieces of software are not the
same.
