INTRODUCTION

• Implant dentistry has come a long
way since the early 1980s when implant
survival and tooth replacement were the
primary objectives. Today, clinicians
continue to push the envelope of care to
satisfy our patients’ esthetic, functional,
and psychological demands.

INDICATIONS

m
• Lack of Denture Supporting Areas
• Poor Oral Muscular Coordination
• Para functional Habits
• Unrealistic Functional Expectations
• Hyperactive Gag Reflex
• Psychological Inability
• Patient’s desire for implant therapy

CONTRAINDICATIONS
m

• Debilitating or uncontrolled disease.
• Pregnancy.
• Lack of adequate training of
practitioner.
• Conditions, diseases, or treatment
that severely compromise healing,
e.g., including radiation therapy.
• Poor patient motivation.

• Psychiatric disorders that interfere
with patient understanding and
compliance with necessary
procedures.
• Inability of patient to manage oral
hygiene.
• Patient hypersensitivity to specific
components of the implant.

• Completely
edentulous
mandibular arch and
partially edentulous
maxillary arch
• Teeth present are 11,
12, 21, 23 and 25

-Extraction of 38, 11 and 25
-Implant retained overdenture in relation
to the mandibular arch with implants
placed in the canine regions
-Tooth supported overdenture in relation
to the maxillary arch with 12, 21 and 23

SURGICAL TEMPLATE
• A dual purpose stent was
prepared using ball
bearings of 5mm
diameter.
• Bone mapping was done
• The actual width was
found to be 6.5mm and
the length 22mm

• Endosteal, root form, cylindrical,
screw type, LIFE CARE IMPLANTS
with 4.2 mm width and 13 mm length
were selected.

SURGICAL PREPARATION

• A crestal incision is given extending
from right molar to left molar.
• Flap is elevated labially and slightly
lingually.
• The surgical template is placed and a
small nick is marked on the bone.
• Pilot drilling is done which is followed
by sequential drilling.

CONCLUSION

• The goal of modern dentistry is to restore the
patients to normal contour, function, comfort,
esthetics speech and health, regardless of the
atrophy, disease or injury of the stomatognathic
system. As a result of continued research in
treatment planning, implant designs, materials
and techniques, predictable success of
implants is now a reality for the rehabilitation for
many challenging clinical situations.
