Poultice of verbena. Cataplasm.

1. How to make a poultice of
Verbena Officinalis
Javier Echavarren Otín

2. Material and ingredients required:
 Verbena officinalis.
Egg whites.
Oil (olive, seeds ...).
Frying pan.
Muslin cloth.
Cotton fabric (can be a T-shirt, piece of sheet, but it is
very important to be cotton).
Source of dry heat (electric blanket, bag of seeds ...).

3. It should have all the ingredients and materials
prepared.

4. Separate the egg whites.
Put the verbena in the pan with a little bit of oil.

5. Heat the verbena (medium heat) and add the egg
whites when the plant is warm. Avoid burning or
roasting it.

6. Take out the pan from heat and mix the egg whites
and verbena.

7. Put the pan again on the heat until the mixture
thickens, stirring with a spatula to prevent the
mixture burning or becomes too dry.

8. Place the verbena on the muslin.

9. Expand it, taking the shape of the surface where
you’ll apply it.

10. Wrapping the mixture with the muslin, as shown in
the following sequence: cover it with a first muslin
fold.

11. We continue covering the poultice with another fold.

12. Once folded all the muslin over the poultice, now it’s
ready to flip.

13. Turn it, and the part we will apply it to the skin, only
have to has a layer of muslin. It’s allows to the
poultice greater contact with the skin.

14. Check the temperature of the poultice putting a hand
on it. It’s important to be hot but not burning. In this
moment, can be applied on the affected part.
T-Shirt or cotton cloth folded, that’s below the poultice,
will make two functions. Serves to keep the heat of
poultice, and prevents clothes from staining.
On the T-shirt we will apply a dry heat source (electric
blanket, bag of seeds), that allows us to keep warm the
poultice during the time of application.
Apply the poultice from one and a half to three hours.
You can keep going longer if necessary.

15. This is an example of how you can get the T-shirt
after applying the poultice.

16. Is recommended to apply once a day for 7 or 9 days and
another series repeat if necessary. The number of days and
frequency will change depending on the health disorder
treated and the recommendation of a specialist.
Warnings:
- Forbidden apply in people with allergies to egg or
verbena.
- In children (they have more sensitive skin), must be
extremely careful to apply not too hot to prevent irritation
and / or burns. Do not apply more than 4 or 5 consecutive
days.
- Do not apply on wounds.
