You have been hearing a lot about the new Office. I just want to make sure all of us understand when you speak about the next release of Office to customers, you always describe it as “the new Office”.It’s the first time we are introducing Office as our master brand, encompassing both the cloud services and perpetual products. For cloud services, we have Office 365 as the brand, and it’s the brand for all our cloud services, from consumers to businesses. For the perpetual business, we continue to have Office. This is the full Office client that your customers own the rights for, and they own the rights for a specific version of Office. That’s why for the perpetual SKUs, we will always include the version year 2013 in the product name, such as, “Office Home & Business 2013”.It’s important to note that we will never refer to this release as just Office 2013 because when you are referring to the entire release, cloud services is always part of that, and as you know, cloud services is always up to date and version-less. So once again, when you refer to this new release of Office, you simply refer to it as “the new Office” or the new release of Office. With these changes, we have also introduced a new modern logo. Now that you understand the brand and how to talk about this new release of Office with customers, let’s take a look at the SKUs. <click>
<click> Under the sub-brand of Office 365, <click again> these are all the cloud services spanning from consumers to enterprises, to give our customers the power of choice. The first on the left is our consumer offering, and the boxes on the right are all our commercial offerings.<click> And as you saw from the keynote, these are the prices broken down by month.<click> Just to complete the picture and product line up, here are the Office perpetual offerings and their prices.Because we are leading with the cloud in SMB, for the rest of this session, we will focus on helping you understand how to sell the commercial offerings of Office 365, specificallyOffice 365 Small Business Premium and Office 365 Midsize Business, to SMB. So to make sure we all have a good understanding of what Office 365 includes in the commercial offerings, let’s do a double click on that…<click>
We talked about how your “people need to work on many different devices” and that they have the best experience and the best tools when working on different devices. Let’s see how Office 365 can help you with this…
Before the click:Office 365 includes the latest version of all the familiar Office applications – including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook – for you to use on your PCs and Macs. After the Click:In addition, it also provides access to certain Office applications that are optimized for tablets and smartphones. For example, Outlook for Windows tablets is optimized for touch experience and makes it easier for users to interact, compose and manage their email on the go. Lync and OneNote for Windows Phones as well as iOS and Android operating system provide the rich experience on the mobile phones. For each Office 365 licenseduser, you can use Office on up to 5 PC or Mac, and 5 mobile devices.
Office on Demand is just one way of using Office when you are away from the device. If you just need to make a quick edit or you are on a non-Windows machine, you can simply open the documents in a browser, using Office Web Apps.Office Web Apps are now improved to provide you with the full feature experience in your web browser so you can create new documents or edit using your favorite browser. [Click]With the new and improved Web Apps, you get more of the same ribbon experience that you are familiar with in the rich application. And more options will be added as we continue to make editions in the upcoming releases. [Click]Get updated editing functionality like inline reply to comments as well as rich editing experienceWith the choice of the rich Office experience with Office On Demand as well as the improved Office Web Apps, users get the best productivity experience when they are away from the personal computers.
So what about when you don’t have your devices with you?Now you can use Office even when you are away from your devices. You can stream Office to any Windows 7 or Windows 8 machine and this could be a machine in a hotel lobby or at your parents place where you are staying for the weekend. Open the browser of that PC, log into Office, and click on “use Office on Demand” [Click] will give you the choice to select the Office application you want to stream down [second click].In just a matter of a couple minutes, the application will stream down to the PC and you will have the rich Office experience to work on your documents.Office doesn’t need to be installed on that machine or it’ll run side-by-side with an older version. You don’t even need to have administrative rights on the PC to do thisOnce saved, the documents are stored in SkyDrive and the Office application is removed from the PC, leaving no traces of it on the device.
The next big area that most customers want to accomplish is to enable a mobile workforce to work together. Let’s dive into some of the great functionality available in Office 365 to enable everybody to work better together. [Click]
The biggest challenge for remote workers is to hold meetings, especially productive meetings together. Lync Online in Office 365 has solved this problem by adding multiparty high-definition video conferencing where every participant can now interact with everybody else on the meeting in a more lively manner. Plus, with the ability to share your screen, may it be a specific document, presentation or your entire desktop, users can convey their point clearly to the audience of the meeting. [Click]The new Lync Online in Office 365 now also supports creating a shared OneNote meeting notes during the meeting. This means with one click, you create a OneNote that everyone in the call has access to and can start typing at the same time. Everyone can see and verify the list of action items as they are being discussed during the meeting so there are less chances for errors and ensure everyone is on the same page. Since it’s a shared OneNote, it also means the organizer of the meeting can delegate the responsibility of note-taking to someone else in the call if need be.
With the new Office 365 team sites and Site Mailboxes, you can manage a project very easily right from within Outlook. Subscribe to one of the Site Mailboxes for a given project and it shows up as a separate mailbox in the Outlook navigation window. This happens for all members of the team that are invited to join by the Site Mailbox creator. Once visible, you can drag and drop any email from the personal mailbox to the team mailbox and the mail will be accessible by the entire team.[Click]You can also manage the documents related to the project from within Outlook. Click the Shared Documents folder under the team mailbox and you will see all the documents that are shared by the team related to this project. Drag any document from email attachment to here or from the desktop and it is uploaded to SharePoint for the entire team to consume. [Click]In addition to managing emails and documents, you can edit the project tasks list on SharePoint and get a quick view at the progress of the project from the Team Site page. All these enhancements are based on customer feedback to help you collaborate on projects easily.
In addition to making it easy to share documents and emails with a pre-set team structure, you also want to do ad-hoc sharing and also sharing with external partners or customers. With SkyDrive Pro or any other document library within SharePoint Online, you can easily share documents from the preview pane. This preview pane helps ensure it is the right file you want to share.[Click]Or, you can also easily share documents from within each of the Office applications by clicking share.
The new Office also includes improvements in each of the application to help you work better together with data. One of the example is the new Excel.[click] When you select a table, it will take the data and dynamically generate different charts using your data to quickly preview for you what they will look like, without committing to them.It will do the same for you for PivotTable too – which is something very useful but not the easiest to create from scratch.
We talked about at the beginning how “managing complex infrastructure is taking your IT staff away from important projects.” here are the different ways of how Office 365 can simplify your IT management while still giving you the control you want.
Office 365 simplifies most of the tasks required by IT admins by making them easily accessible via the simplified admin portal. IT administrators can get to workload management portals using the universal nav bar. Also the left navigation frame allows IT administrators to quickly get access to adding users, checking service settings or check on licensing. In addition, Office 365 now have integrated community support where IT Administrators can quickly search for any issues on the community right from within the portal.
Continue along the theme of simplifying administration, IT admins can now setup anti-malware and anti-spam policies for the entire organization with just a few clicks.
Mobile devices are making your users life easier but making it harder for IT to manage. [Click] Now you can enable mobile access and set up mobile access policies for users from the same admin console. You can also remotely wipe data from lost devices within the same console.
Deploying Office in the past has always been a chore. Now you can deploy Office on desktops quickly and effortlessly by streaming the full featured Office desktop applications directly from Office 365. [Click] It’s so simple, users can do it themselves by simply clicking on “install”.This is a ground-breaking technology because rather than taking 30 min to download the .msi file (Microsoft Installer) and then another 20-30 min to install Office. With this click-to-run technology, Office is ready to use within moments (as quick as seconds with a fast Internet connection) of you clicking “install”.This Office stays on the machine so users can go offline once it’s installed. This is not to be confused with Office on demand that we talked about before for you to stream one Office application to any PC for you to edit documents wherever you are.
Not only is the new Office quick to install, it can also run side-by-side with older versions of Office. [Click] Here you have an example of a single machine running both Word 2013 and Word 2003.This is great for many reasons. It means you can deploy and standardize everyone in the company with the new Office but still allowing, say Finance, to open and use a budgeting Excel file with macros built in that they have been using for years. This will give them time to test the new Excel before completely moving off of Office 2003 – which is coming end of support by April 2014.
With Office 365, you have Microsoft as your extended IT department.
