2. Background
• The SLTS pilot was piloted in 2008 with support from
UNICEF and DFID in 4 provinces, by utilized the
experience of implementing CLTS
• It is an approach linking school and their catchment
villages to promote sanitation and hygiene behavior
• Recommendation by 2009 review to transform from
SLTS to SC WASH
• SC WASH was implemented in 6 provinces/24
provinces
• MRD and MoEYS agreed to establish the SC WASH
committee on Nov 30, 2009 .

3. Why SC WASH?
• Enhance the Knowledge both to children
in school and their family in community to
change the behavior into good practice:
- Safety drinking and storage water
- Washing hands with soap
- Latrine use both at school and at home
- Keep clean environment in school and
community

5. Result
• In 2010: implemented in 6 provinces, 23 districts, 47
communes, 376 villages and 157 schools
• In 2011: implemented in 14 provinces, 27 districts, 64
communes, 229 villages and 107 schools
• Joint declaration between MRD and MoEYS issued
• Dekka of Provincials Governor issued
• Guideline of SC WASH developed
• Training manual developed
• Tool for monitoring and evaluation developed both
software and hardware.

6. Lessons Learnt
• Cross-sectoral coordination: good relationship
between Ministry of Rural Development and
MoEYS
• Synergy between school and community
• Strong commitment and participation of staff,
student, teacher, all people in grassroots level
• Strong supported by UNICEF/DPs

• Capacity in sub national
