This document provides an overview of key concepts in defining and classifying abnormal behavior from a psychopathology perspective. It discusses debates around what constitutes normal versus abnormal behavior and outlines some of the challenges in categorization. Elements used to define abnormality are described, including behaviors that are deviant, distressing, dysfunctional, dangerous, unpredictable or violate social norms.
