Profile
Mat came to everyone’s attention with his form during Hartpury College’s domination
of British University rugby, during his time in their prestigious sports academy. He
helped lead the side to 2 national championships and appeared regularly for
Gloucester in the A League. After his studies Mat got the opportunity to travel with
his rugby and he played with Alghero Rugby in Italy, where he finished the season
as top try scorer. Looking for more of a challenge, he returned to play Welsh
Mat Gilbert Premiership rugby with Llanelli and stood out as one of the best back rowers in the
division, resulting in his involvement with the Scarlets this season. He has made the
DOB: 09.10.1985 step up in class look almost effortless, with stand out performances against
Northampton and Castres in the Heineken Cup and Leicester in the LV Cup –
