- Hello, I am Mechelle Welch. I have 16 years in the Science and Technology Classroom. My outlook for my students is to identify their talents and match these talents to a career. It is time for Education to catch up with the ever changing student. Teachers need to embrace the technical world because the students have already taken hold of this tool. I would like to introduce you to Mississippi quickly and discuss how the state has worked to embrace STEM education. But first, here are a few pictures of Mississippi during the fall season.

- Redesign is a massive statewide educational initiative including many components, some of which are contingent uponfunding. Due to the size and cost of Redesign, individual school districts are being systematically phased intoimplementation through a competitive process.Each district determines their local job demand needs for their geographic regionsClass descriptions….
- In Mississippi, we are piloting a new class that is designed to encourage students to investigate the field of engineering as a career. Students are given opportunities to explore engineering concepts. As they progress through the class they develop many of the 21st century workforce skills. Communication, problem solving, and leadership are just a few skills that the students develop. Students are extremely technological and Education must move into the acceptance of technology. Technology is a tool not a teacher. Teachers need to embrace the technology to teach the student of today.Many students lean toward rote memory which helps them to pass a test but a true education experience is when the student takes the base knowledge and uses it to solve problems or create new products.
- A well equipped teacher makes a productive teacher.
