Early Assurance Pre-Medical Program
“I chose SUNY Cobleskill because of the Early
Assurance Pre-Medical Program. After I finish
my studies at SUNY Cobleskill, I’ll be transfer-
ring to Cornell for two years, and then going on
to medical school at Upstate Medical University
in Syracuse. Since I don’t have to worry about
applying to medical school, I’m able to really
concentrate on my studies. Thanks to this
program, I know just what my future holds.”
kevin berner
Associate Professor, Fisheries and Wildlife
As the winner of the 2004 SUNY Chancellor’s
Award for Excellence in Teaching, Kevin Berner
is a popular and well-respected member of the
faculty. While grizzly bears, pelicans and a wide
array of birds have been the focus of his field
studies, his main area of expertise is the Eastern
Bluebird. He works closely with his students
surveying wildlife and their habitats, often in
caves. Among their more exciting discoveries
was a snake skeleton from the last glacial
period, thought to be thousands of years old.

JoAnne Cloughly has been
included in the prestigious guide,
Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
Because of the new trends in fusion
cuisine, she believes that anyone who is
serious about succeeding in the industry
today must become knowledgeable about
other cultures. “Our own diverse student
body is such a great resource for our
students. I encourage all of them to
network and learn from one another, both
in and out of the classroom.”

Dr. Murphy is an award-winning teacher who
is also doing groundbreaking research. As a
Fulbright Senior Scholar, he spent a year
in Prague studying embryonic and fetal kidney
function. Since many kidney problems begin
before birth, this area of study is of particular
interest to him. He has continued this work
in conjunction with the Czech Academy
of Sciences and often involves his students.
Dr. Murphy is also the founder of SUNY
Cobleskill’s Early Assurance Pre-Medical Program.

Liberal Arts Major
“I just graduated from SUNY Cobleskill after
majoring in Liberal Arts with a concentration in
Humanities. Looking back, I can see how I was
transformed here, both as a student and as a
person. I attribute a lot to the Honors Program
where I was constantly challenged to achieve
excellence. SUNY Cobleskill provides all of the
tools that are necessary for success. A student
only needs to take advantage of all that’s offered.”

“I’ve made a lot of good friends at SUNY
Cobleskill who have helped me develop as
a person, including my roommate who
shares so many of my interests. I’m
involved in many different clubs which are
unique to this school, including the Model
United Nations. My classes are small
enough so the professors actually know
the students — and can help us individually.
I’ve already learned so much about my field
because of the easy working relationship
between the professors and the students.”
