This document discusses integrating Common Core State Standards into Chinese language instruction at Dixie Magnet Elementary School. It provides background on the school's Chinese program and an introduction to the Common Core. The author then outlines challenges of implementing Common Core and how it could impact foreign language classes. Strategies are presented for supporting Common Core through familiarization, collaboration, embedding standards into Chinese curriculum and instruction, and sharing lesson plans online. Examples are given of integrating specific math, English language arts, science and social studies standards into Chinese lessons. A sample thematic unit is designed around the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Reflections and references are also included.
