Three Stories
菲利普,美国纽约州立布法罗大学汉语和历史专
业学博士研究生。《马可波罗游记》激发了他学
习中国历史文化的兴趣。在他的努力下,于2011
年11月获得孔子学院奖学金,到中国北京的首都
师范大学学习汉语一学期。12月,回到美国,继
续攻读历史博士学位。

Phillip Guingona, currently pursuing a Ph.D
degree on Chinese and History at the University
at Buffalo. The Travels of Marco Polo aroused
his great interest in Chinese history and culture.
Last November, through his great efforts, he
was admitted to the Confucius Institute
Scholarship program to study in Capital Normal
University in China for one semester. He
returned to the U.S. in December to continue his
Doctoral program.
陆梦生,是美国南佛大学孔子学院学生,同时在
美国南佛罗里达大学法学系学习,大学中国语言
文化社主席。 2011年9月,获孔子学院奖学金,
到中国南开大学学习汉语和中国文化一学年。
2011年12月,她在首届天津外国留学生说汉语大
赛中获得金奖。

Louis Marsha, Law major student of the University of
South Florida, and a student of CI at the University of
South Florida. She is the president of the Chinese
Culture and Language Club at USF. Last
September, she was accepted to the Confucius
Institute Scholarship program. She will study Chinese
language and culture for one year in Nankai
University in China. In December 2011, she won the
first place in the Chinese Speaking Competition for
International students in Tianjin.
斯鹏,是美国路易威尔大学人文系本科生。2010
年9月作为优秀本科毕业生获孔子学院奖学金,在
中国北京外国语大学攻读汉语国际教育专业学位
硕士,将于今年7月毕业。他能说一口流利的汉
语,表示要回美国做一名汉语老师。

Spencer David Steven, undergraduate of
Department of Humanity at the University of
Louisville. In September 2010, he was provided
the Confucius Institute Scholarship for his
excellent performance during his undergraduate
study. He is pursuing a Master’s degree in
Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other
Languages (TCSOL) at Beijing Foreign Studies
University. He now speaks perfect Chinese and
is about to graduate in July this year. He whishes
to work as a Chinese teacher in the U.S.

Confucius Institute Scholarship Programs to sponsor international
students, scholars and teachers of Chinese to study Chinese
language and culture in Chinese higher education institutions.

孔子学院奖学金开设于2009年。目前共有139个国家的
近20,000人提出申请,向119个国家的12,000余人授予了
奖学金。

Confucius    Institute Scholarship    Program     was
established in 2009. Approximately 20,000 students
from 139 countries have applied for Confucius Institute
Scholarship by now, over 12,000 applicants from 119
countries have been awarded.

二、申请人资格及项目要求
Eligibility of Applicants and Program
             Requirements
1. 孔子学院奖学金申请人
    Applicants of CI Scholarships are:

① 各国孔子学院(孔子课堂)的优秀学员;
  Students of Chinese from Confucius Institutes/Classrooms with excellent academic
performance;

② 在各国从事或将来有志于从事汉语教学,以及致力于中国语言文化传播的
人士;
   those who currently or will engage in the teaching of Chinese to speakers of other
languages and the promoting of Chinese language and culture;

③ 参加国家汉办/孔子学院总部主办的各类汉语水平考试且成绩优异者;
  those score highly in HSK (Chinese Proficiency) tests organized by
Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters;

④ “汉语桥”世界大学生、中学生等中文比赛获奖选手;
  prize-winners of Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competitions for college and
middle school students;

⑤ 各国高校中文专业成绩优秀的学生。
  students majoring in Chinese with good academic performance from universities all
over the world.
2. 一学期研修生奖学金项目要求
            Requirements for One Semester
                 Scholarship Program


1.非中国籍公民,身心健康,年龄在16至35周岁之间
Non-Chinese citizens aged from 16 to 35 and in good health
2.申请者须在孔子学院学习60学时以上
More than 60 credit hours Chinese study in Confucius Institute
3.或HSK成绩不低于二级120分
Or score of at least 120 in the HSK test (level 2)
4.入学时间为每年秋季或春季,期限为6个月
Enrollment at Autumn or Spring term. The program lasts for 6
months.
3. 一学年研修生奖学金项目要求
         Requirements for One Academic Year
                Scholarship Program


1.非中国籍公民,身心健康,年龄在16至35周岁之间
Non-Chinese citizens aged from 16 to 35 and in good health
2.申请者须在孔子学院学习120学时以上
More than 120 credit hours Chinese study in Confucius Institute
3.或HSK成绩不低于三级180分
Or score of at least 180 in the HSK test (level 3)
4.入学时间为每年秋季,期限为1学年
Enrollment at Autumn term. The program lasts for 1 academic
year.
4. 汉语国际教育专业硕士项目要求
Requirements for Scholarship Program for Teaching Chinese to
        Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL), M.A.


1.非中国籍公民,身心健康,年龄在16至35周岁之间
Non-Chinese citizens aged from 16 to 35, and in good health
2.具有学士学位或相关学历
Bachelor degrees or its equivalent
3.HSK成绩不低于5级180分
At least 180 in the HSK test (level 5)
4.书面承诺毕业后从事5年以上汉语教学工作
Written commitment of engaging in Chinese teaching for at least 5
years after graduation
5.入学时间为每年秋季,学期2年
Enrollment at Autumn term. The program lasts for 2 years.
三、资助范围及额度
Coverage and Values of CI Scholarship
1. 注册费、学费、基本教材费、一次性安置费(一学期及以上)、
生活费(一学期及以上);提供住宿、门诊医疗服务和来华留学生
综合保险。


Scholarship holders are exempt from registration fees, tuition, fees
for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, and
are provided with a one-off resettlement subsidy (for programs
over one semester) and monthly allowance (for programs over one
semester), outpatient medical service and comprehensive
insurance for international students studying in China.

1. 2011年全球孔子学院奖学金录取情况
       Global Confucius Institute Scholarship Admission (2011)


• 2011年,全球共有奖学金申请者5232人,录取3270人,
录取率为62.5%。其中,美国申请者174人,录取127人,录
取率为73%。

• In 2011, there are 5,232 Confucius Institute Scholarship
global applicants among whom 3,270 are accepted by the
Headquarters. The global admission rate is 62.5%. There
are 174 American applicants among whom 127 are granted
the scholarship. Admission rate is 73%.

五、申请办法
Application Procedure
1. 申请流程 Application Procedure
               • 每年2-4月,申请者需登录孔子学院奖学金报名网站注册个人申请账号,在线填报、打印纸
                 质《孔子学院奖学金申请表》,连同证明材料一起寄往招生事务承办机构;
   注册
               • Between February to April of each year, applicants shall go to the CI Scholarship
                 website, apply for CIS id, fill out and print application form, and send it with documents of
Registration
                 proof to the dispatching authorities;(http://cis.chinese.cn)

               • 各国孔子学院(孔子课堂)、或中国驻外使馆(领事馆)、或接收院校负责受理奖学金申请材
                 料,择优推荐符合条件的申请者;
 提交材料          • Confucius Institutes/Classrooms, or Embassies (Consulate-General) of China in sending
 Material        countries, or receiving Universities will take the applications and make recommendations
Submission       based on performance of the applicants;


               • 接收院校审核申请者入学资格,幵向总部提交奖学金留学生拟录取名单;
  预录取          • Eligibility of applicants are reviewed by the receiving institutes, and nominations are
  Pre-           submitted to the Headquarters;

               • 总部审核拟录取人选及申请材料,择优选择获奖者,幵于7月通过推荐机构公布和通知获奖
                 者,幵将入学材料转交奖学金申请人。
 确定录取          • CI Headquarters experts will assess all applications and announce scholarship holders in
Admission        July based on the applicants’ performance. Finalists will be informed, and materials for
                 registration will be sent by recommending institutions.

5. 联系当地孔子学院作为推荐机构,幵取得推荐机构负责人签字
   Contact a local Confucius Institute as your recommending
institute, and acquire the signature of the referee of the
recommending institute.
6. 申请者须提交以下材料(一式两份)
 Application Documents (two copies):

  ① 《孔子学院奖学金申请表》;
     Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form;

  ② 护照照片页复印件;
    Photocopy of the passport (the page with holder’s photo);

  ③ 申请陈述 Application Statement:
      申请者须用中文(不少于800字)介绍汉语学习背景、来华学习计划及目标
  等;
      Applicants shall submit a personal background description of Chinese
  learning, study plan and academic objectives in Chinese. Minimum word-
  length requirement is 800 Chinese characters.

  ④ 汉语教师须提交就职机构出具的执教年限及周授课时数证明;
     Teachers of Chinese should provide proof of years of teaching and
  weekly teaching hours issued by organizations in which they work;
⑤ HSK成绩报告复印件(如申请者尚未取得新HSK成绩报告,可暂时提交新
HSK 准考证号及其他汉语水平证明材料,但须在入学时提交正式的新HSK成绩
报告);
Official report of HSK test. (HSK test ID and other proof of Chinese
proficiency are accepted if report is not yet available. But the report must be
submitted upon registration in the receiving institute. )

⑥ 最高学历和成绩证明。一学年研修生和汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者
须提交经过公证的最高学历证明;汉语国际教育专业硕士须同时提交学校的成绩
证明;
Notarized photocopy of highest diploma and official transcripts. Notarized
photocopy of highest diploma is required for both one year academic program
applicants and M.A. TCSOL program applicants. M.A. TCSOL program
applicants shall also provide official transcripts.
⑦ 推荐信。汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者,须提交两名副教授以上职称导师
的推荐信(用中文或英文书写);
Letter of Recommendation. M.A. TCSOL program applicants should submit letters
of recommendation (both in Chinese and English) from 2 associate professors or
professors;

⑧ 未满18周岁的申请者,须提交委托在华法定监护人的相关法律文件;
Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the legal documents of their legal
guardians in China;

⑨ 承诺书。汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者须提交毕业后至少从事5年汉语教学
工作的承诺书(用中文书写幵签名);
Written Commitment. M.A. TCSOL program applicants must sign a commitment
(written in Chinese) promising to fulfill a five-year Chinese teaching service after
graduation;

⑩ “汉语桥”世界大、中学生比赛优胜者须提供获奖证书或赛区主办单位出具的获
奖证明。
Proof of prize-winners from organizer of Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency
Competition for college and middle school students.
注意事项
Notes:
1.奖学金获得者须按时报到,无故逾期未报到者,奖学金资格不予保留;
    Applicants shall register at the receiving university on time, otherwise
the scholarship will be terminated;

2.入学体检不合格者,奖学金资格将被取消;
   Scholarship will not be granted if applicants fail the physical check-up
upon registration;

3.汉语国际教育专业硕士须在入学后第二学期,参加年度评审,符合条件
者方可继续享受下一年度奖学金。
   Scholarship holders of M.A. TCSOL program will be granted the
scholarship for the next year only if they pass the annual evaluation at the
beginning of their second semester.
六、常见问题
Frequently Asked Questions
1. 申请者是否必须为非在华人员?
    Should applicants live outside China?

•   答:孔子学院奖学金是面向非中国籍人士设立的,倾向于支持从未到过中国
    学习的海外申请者来华学习,在华非中国籍人士也可申请。


    CI Scholarships are provided for non-Chinese individuals and favor
    the ones who have never studied in China. Non-Chinese citizens
    who are living in China are also qualified applicants.
2. 孔子学院奖学金申请者是否有年龄限制?
    Is there a limit on the age of the applicants?

•   答:申请者年龄一般在16至35周岁之间。
    All applicants should be aged from 16 to 35.
3. 申请孔子学院奖学金,是否要提供HSK成绩,应达几级?
    Should I take the HSK test? What is the requirement of the
    score?
•   答:除国际汉语硕士奖学金项目外,其余奖学金项目在完成一定课时汉语课程后可免
    除考试。但项目倾向于有HSK成绩的申请者。
    All programs applicants, except M.A. of TCSOL, are not required to take the
    HSK tests if they have completed specific credit hours of Chinese courses.
    However, applicants with a valid HSK score are favored.

4. 我所在地没有孔子学院,我也没有使馆的推荐,我从未到过中国,不认
   识任何接收院校的老师,推荐机构是否可以填我拟申请的接收院校?
   There isn’t a CI in the place where I live. I neither have a
   recommendation from the Embassy, nor have any contact with
   professors in the receiving university in China. I have never been
   to China. Can I put the receiving university as my recommending
   institute?

•   答:可以,但应主动跟接收院校联系,得到许可。在未建孔子学院的国家,申请
    者可通过开设中文专业的有关高校提交申请。
     Yes, but a permission from the receiving university should be granted.
    Applicants from where there isn’t a Confucius Institute yet can apply to
    higher education institutes which have Chinese majors.
5. 我没有到过中国也没有中国的朋友,在华联系人该如何填写?
    I have never been to China before and thus have no
    Chinese friends. Who is supposed to be my contact in
    China?

•   答:在华联系人,是指您来华学习后,在华期间如遇紧急事务可与谁联系,您的
    联系人可为在华人士,也可是海外人士。
    “Contact in China” means the person to be contacted when you are in
    an emergency during your study in China. The contact can be a person
    either in China or overseas.
6. 网上可查询到录取结果吗?
    Can I check the admission result online?

•   答:可以。申请者可通过电话、电子邮件联系推荐机构、接收院校,或通过登陆
    奖学金网站(http://cis.chinese.cn/),查询申请进程及结果。
    Yes. Applicants may get updates from recommending institutes and
    receiving institute through hotline and email, or log on to Confucius
    Institute Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn/) for more
    information of the application process.

The Travels of Marco Polo aroused his great interest in Chinese history and culture. Last November, through his great efforts, he was admitted to the Confucius Institute Scholarship program to study in Capital Normal University in China for one semester. He returned to the U.S. in December to continue his Doctoral program.

The program lasts for 6 months.

  • 27. 1. 申请流程 Application Procedure • 每年2-4月,申请者需登录孔子学院奖学金报名网站注册个人申请账号,在线填报、打印纸 质《孔子学院奖学金申请表》,连同证明材料一起寄往招生事务承办机构; 注册 • Between February to April of each year, applicants shall go to the CI Scholarship website, apply for CIS id, fill out and print application form, and send it with documents of Registration proof to the dispatching authorities;(http://cis.chinese.cn) • 各国孔子学院(孔子课堂)、或中国驻外使馆(领事馆)、或接收院校负责受理奖学金申请材 料,择优推荐符合条件的申请者; 提交材料 • Confucius Institutes/Classrooms, or Embassies (Consulate-General) of China in sending Material countries, or receiving Universities will take the applications and make recommendations Submission based on performance of the applicants; • 接收院校审核申请者入学资格,幵向总部提交奖学金留学生拟录取名单; 预录取 • Eligibility of applicants are reviewed by the receiving institutes, and nominations are Pre- submitted to the Headquarters; Admission • 总部审核拟录取人选及申请材料,择优选择获奖者,幵于7月通过推荐机构公布和通知获奖 者,幵将入学材料转交奖学金申请人。 确定录取 • CI Headquarters experts will assess all applications and announce scholarship holders in Admission July based on the applicants’ performance. Finalists will be informed, and materials for registration will be sent by recommending institutions.

  • 31. 5. 联系当地孔子学院作为推荐机构,幵取得推荐机构负责人签字 Contact a local Confucius Institute as your recommending institute, and acquire the signature of the referee of the recommending institute.
  • 32. 6. 申请者须提交以下材料(一式两份) Application Documents (two copies): ① 《孔子学院奖学金申请表》; Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form; ② 护照照片页复印件; Photocopy of the passport (the page with holder’s photo); ③ 申请陈述 Application Statement: 申请者须用中文(不少于800字)介绍汉语学习背景、来华学习计划及目标 等; Applicants shall submit a personal background description of Chinese learning, study plan and academic objectives in Chinese. Minimum word- length requirement is 800 Chinese characters. ④ 汉语教师须提交就职机构出具的执教年限及周授课时数证明; Teachers of Chinese should provide proof of years of teaching and weekly teaching hours issued by organizations in which they work;
  • 33. ⑤ HSK成绩报告复印件(如申请者尚未取得新HSK成绩报告,可暂时提交新 HSK 准考证号及其他汉语水平证明材料,但须在入学时提交正式的新HSK成绩 报告); Official report of HSK test. (HSK test ID and other proof of Chinese proficiency are accepted if report is not yet available. But the report must be submitted upon registration in the receiving institute. ) ⑥ 最高学历和成绩证明。一学年研修生和汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者 须提交经过公证的最高学历证明;汉语国际教育专业硕士须同时提交学校的成绩 证明; Notarized photocopy of highest diploma and official transcripts. Notarized photocopy of highest diploma is required for both one year academic program applicants and M.A. TCSOL program applicants. M.A. TCSOL program applicants shall also provide official transcripts.
  • 34. ⑦ 推荐信。汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者,须提交两名副教授以上职称导师 的推荐信(用中文或英文书写); Letter of Recommendation. M.A. TCSOL program applicants should submit letters of recommendation (both in Chinese and English) from 2 associate professors or professors; ⑧ 未满18周岁的申请者,须提交委托在华法定监护人的相关法律文件; Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the legal documents of their legal guardians in China; ⑨ 承诺书。汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者须提交毕业后至少从事5年汉语教学 工作的承诺书(用中文书写幵签名); Written Commitment. M.A. TCSOL program applicants must sign a commitment (written in Chinese) promising to fulfill a five-year Chinese teaching service after graduation; ⑩ “汉语桥”世界大、中学生比赛优胜者须提供获奖证书或赛区主办单位出具的获 奖证明。 Proof of prize-winners from organizer of Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for college and middle school students.
  • 35. 注意事项 Notes: 1.奖学金获得者须按时报到,无故逾期未报到者,奖学金资格不予保留; Applicants shall register at the receiving university on time, otherwise the scholarship will be terminated; 2.入学体检不合格者,奖学金资格将被取消; Scholarship will not be granted if applicants fail the physical check-up upon registration; 3.汉语国际教育专业硕士须在入学后第二学期,参加年度评审,符合条件 者方可继续享受下一年度奖学金。 Scholarship holders of M.A. TCSOL program will be granted the scholarship for the next year only if they pass the annual evaluation at the beginning of their second semester.
  • 37. 1. 申请者是否必须为非在华人员? Should applicants live outside China? • 答:孔子学院奖学金是面向非中国籍人士设立的,倾向于支持从未到过中国 学习的海外申请者来华学习,在华非中国籍人士也可申请。 CI Scholarships are provided for non-Chinese individuals and favor the ones who have never studied in China. Non-Chinese citizens who are living in China are also qualified applicants.
  • 38. 2. 孔子学院奖学金申请者是否有年龄限制? Is there a limit on the age of the applicants? • 答:申请者年龄一般在16至35周岁之间。 All applicants should be aged from 16 to 35.
  • 39. 3. 申请孔子学院奖学金,是否要提供HSK成绩,应达几级? Should I take the HSK test? What is the requirement of the score? • 答:除国际汉语硕士奖学金项目外,其余奖学金项目在完成一定课时汉语课程后可免 除考试。但项目倾向于有HSK成绩的申请者。 All programs applicants, except M.A. of TCSOL, are not required to take the HSK tests if they have completed specific credit hours of Chinese courses.   • 40. 4. 我所在地没有孔子学院,我也没有使馆的推荐,我从未到过中国,不认 识任何接收院校的老师,推荐机构是否可以填我拟申请的接收院校? There isn’t a CI in the place where I live. I neither have a recommendation from the Embassy, nor have any contact with professors in the receiving university in China. I have never been to China. Can I put the receiving university as my recommending institute? • 答:可以,但应主动跟接收院校联系,得到许可。在未建孔子学院的国家,申请 者可通过开设中文专业的有关高校提交申请。 Yes, but a permission from the receiving university should be granted. Applicants from where there isn’t a Confucius Institute yet can apply to higher education institutes which have Chinese majors.
  • 41. 5. 我没有到过中国也没有中国的朋友,在华联系人该如何填写? I have never been to China before and thus have no Chinese friends. Who is supposed to be my contact in China? • 答:在华联系人,是指您来华学习后,在华期间如遇紧急事务可与谁联系,您的 联系人可为在华人士,也可是海外人士。 “Contact in China” means the person to be contacted when you are in an emergency during your study in China. The contact can be a person either in China or overseas.

Applicants may get updates from recommending institutes and receiving institute through hotline and email, or log on to Confucius Institute Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn/) for more information of the application process.
