Three EX9200 switch models are available:The 4-slot EX9204The 8-slot EX9208 The 14-slot EX9214All EX9200 chassis are built on Juniper One custom silicon, the same silicon used in our industry-leading routers. All EX9200 switches also run Juniper’s Junos OS operating system. 1GbE (copper and fiber), 10GbE and 40GbE interface cards are available today; a 100GbE interface card is in development. Enterprise networks are often viewed as impediments to business agility. It takes time to re-provision networks to support new virtual machines and applications. Changes are inherently risky and are vulnerable to human errors that can take your business down. The EX9200 addresses these challenges through programmability. In fact, the EX9200 is the most programmable core switch on the market.Programmability is implemented at the silicon, system and network levels. The EX9200 is built on the Juniper One custom silicon, or ASIC—the same ASIC used in Juniper’s proven and field-tested routing platforms. The EX9200 is the first product in its class to be built on a programmable ASIC, enabling Juniper to modify the ASIC’s behavior down to the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) and allowing support for new networking protocols such as VxLAN to be implemented via a simple software upgrade rather than a cumbersome hardware replacement. At the system level, EX9200 platforms support Junos Automation and the Junos SDK. The switches also provide the ability to support native interfaces for SDN automation tools such as Juniper’s Contrail , Puppet, OpenFlow and others. This level of programmability and automation reduces the time it takes to re-provision the network to support new applications from days or weeks to seconds while virtually eliminating “human risk.” At a softwarelevel, the EX9200 supports integration with leading orchestration applications such as VMWare and OpenStack, eliminating delays and errors caused by re-provisioning the network to support virtual machine or application mobility.[click]
Most switches use “Merchant Silicon” composed of off-the-shelf chip components for their Packet Forwarding Engines—the chipset that switches and routes individual packets. Built for the masses, Merchant Silicon restricts network product manufacturers’ ability innovate since they are limited by the capabilities of the chip. Delivering basic and advanced Layer 2 switching capabilities and some basic Layer 3 switching / routing capabilities such as MPLS, Merchant Silicon has its place in the market, supporting higher volume / lower cost platforms such as access switches.A core switch based on Merchant Silicon, however, cannot deliver business agility. Today’s core switches require advanced Layer 3 and deep buffering capabilities. Furthermore, business agility requires advanced MPLS and Overlay Gateway Routing capabilities, as well as the ability to support future, still evolving capabilities without requiring hardware replacements.[Click]Most important, Packet Forwarding Engines need to deliver all capabilities “at scale,” whether to one device or to hundreds of thousands. To further simplify network operations across campus and data center environments, the EX9200 has the ability to support for protocols such as GRE and CAPWAP for campus wireless deployments; and protocols like VXLAN and NVGRE in data center environments. Support for new protocols is provided via Junos Software updates—no hardware replacement required—providing extensive investment protection.
Three EX9200 chassis options provide full deployment flexibility:The EX9204 is a 4-slot, 6 U chassis that supports up to three line cards (two line cards with Switch Fabric and Routing Engine resiliency). The EX9204 also offers fan tray resiliency and supports up to four power supplies (110 or 220 VAC, or -48 VDC power input) for 1+1 or 2+2 redundancy configurations. Chassis capacity on the EX9204 is up to 1.6 Tbps.The EX9208 is an 8-slot, 8 U chassis that supports up to six line cards with Switch Fabric, Routing Engine and fan tray resiliency. The EX9208 supports up to four power supplies (110 or 220 VAC, or -48 VDC power input) for 2+2 or 3+1 redundancy. Chassis capacity on the EX9208 is up to 4.8 Tbps.The EX9214 is a 14-slot, 16 U chassis that supports up to 12 line cards (11 line cards with full Switch Fabric and Routing Engine resiliency and maximum throughput). The EX9214 offers fan tray resiliency and supports up to four power supplies (220 VAC or -48 VDC power input) divided into two power zones, each of which support 1+1 redundancy.
