 Avelar Brotero was a
Portuguese botanist and
professor.
 He also was the director of
the Botanical Garden in
Coimbra
 His two best known books
are Flora Lusitanica and
Phytographia Lusitaniae
Selectior. They were the first
lengthy descriptions of
native Portuguese plants.
His statue in the Botanical Garden.

3. A High School in Coimbra was named after him.
The Broteriana Society was founded in his honour.
