Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
2. Distribution companies are intended to aid the release of a film, along with its marketing.
When negotiating the rights of a film with a distributor, certain points are discussed such
as: the territory the film is distributed in; the time frame in which the distributor has
rights over the film; the rights granted to the distributor; the gross income the distributor
receives; and the means by which the agreement can be terminated.

and successful distribution
companies.

What Is
Distribution?
3. We have chosen Momentum Pictures to distribute our film. They have produced several
Thriller films, pictured above. For this reason we decided they would be a good company to
go with, as our film is a Thriller film that will contain action and psychological elements. In
addition, Wikipedia describes them as ‘one of the leading independent motion picture
distributors in the UK’, which shows they are not only based in the same country as our
film, but are independent rather than part of a synergy.
As Momentum Pictures are based in the UK, and have become very successful, we will
make residents of the UK our main target audience, however we will also expand to wider
audiences such as the U.S.A. for their interest in Thriller and Action films.
Who Is Our
Distributor?
4. We would like our film to be advertised to our target audience successfully.
As our target audience is males between the ages of 18 and 30, we need to
ensure our advertisements are displayed at optimum hours – primarily after
during work travel times, and late night TV when the majority of males will have
returned from work, as well as students relaxing from university.
The film will be released in cinemas, as opening weekend revenues can be
high for successful films. This will need to tie in with our advertising well, in
order to promote the cinema viewings to the target audience.
