Question 1
1. Question 1. In what
ways does your media
product use, develop
or challenge forms
and conventions of
real media products?
2. I have used popular conventions of real
magazines in my magazine so that it looks
similar to real ones that are sold today. On my
front cover I have my masthead ‘UMF’ with
text below it showing what it stands for,
‘Upcoming Music Focus’. This is similar to NME
Magazine and makes the cover look more
professional. It is also essential for readers,
especially new readers as they need to know
what the name stands for.
3. I used a puff on my cover to advertise a
competition inside the magazine, it stands out
due to the bright yellow that I have used
which is part of my colour scheme on my style
sheet, red, yellow, black and white. Bright
colours are also used by popular music
magazines because they are eye catching
and draw readers to the magazine.
4. I have added a banner at the top of the
cover similar to most music magazines. It tells
the reader more about the issue, in my case it
is the special 100th edition. The banner also
cuts of the magazine so it looks more like a
front cover.
5. Within my contents page I have used similar
conventions to NME, using a column down the
left hand side of the page to show the reader
what is inside the magazine in a uniform and
professional looking way. This makes it easier
for the reader to read what happens inside
the magazine in order.
6. When adding images that I had edited, I also
added captions and pieces of text with them
that explained what each article was about.
This gives the reader more information on
each artist as well as their names so that if a
reader knew what an artist looked like but
didn’t know their name, they can easily find it.
I also added page numbers so the articles are
easy to find within the magazine.
7. I have used several popular conventions in my
DPS. I added a drop cap at the start of my
article to draw the readers eyes towards it so
they start to read from there. Unlike most
music magazines sold today, I edited my drop
cap so that it incorporated my colour scheme
and stands out more. I also added a caption
onto the main DPS image to add some
context to it, rather than it just being blank.
