1. 9-Frame Analysis of a Music Video<br />Example – Kickstarts<br />This scene introduces the sound (thought) beats that are present throughout the music video, by matching the foot tapping and title to the beats of music. Colour matching is also used between the title of the artist and the shoes of the person tapping his foot. The overall colour scheme used in the frame also ties with the ‘happy vibe’ of the music with its brightness and light colour scheme.<br />The next clip expands on the ‘foot-tapping’ idea rooted in the video, crossing over to another clip in-sync but this time switching background and person; to prevent dullness and keep on beat with the rhythm.<br />Following this a merge occurs, splitting the screen between the original clip and the one that followed. These both remain accurate to the beat, though they clearly contrast each other this time to emphasis the two separate, but the same beats. The camera also remains close up, highlighting the emphasis on matching the beat with a ‘visual’ representation of an instrument. <br />This idea expands once again, this time x4 the amount of feet. These again remain in-sync as well, but also create a build up to the introduction of vocals, which is soon to follow. The different shoes/feet creates extra variety to keep the anticipation from the audience.<br />This frame introduces the vocals to the video, including lip-syncing in one half while matching actions to words in the other (holding hands). This gives a narrative feel to the video, and creating a visual representation for the audience, sparking interest. A pink jumper is used in this clip also, to reinforce the bright colour scheme.<br />This frame changes back from the ‘split’ technique, creating variety and expansion on the story and highlighting the connection between the two main characters. Facial close-ups are also used to highlight expression and feeling during the clip.<br />During this scene the background remains the same while the character changes, in time with the beat of the music. This replaces tapping of the feet, again creating variety and preventing boredom. The camera remains in a medium-close position, keeping each shot as identical as possible, again creating a ‘visual’ instrument for the music.<br />This scene reestablishes the story behind the vocals, repeating this match-on-action of the lyrics and referring back to the split-picture technique. This allows the viewing of two separate events at the same time, allowing an easy fit in the time frame and effective story telling.<br /> <br />Within this frame the chorus is matched with dancing, while the screen is split, allowing the cutting of separate characters into one frame. This, like all the other scenes, matches the beats of the music and retains the up-beat, happy theme the video hopes to achieve. The ‘top’ screen is also of close-ups, allowing similarities between the bottom screen while also creating a abstract picture. <br />
