9. What is DHA?
DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is a non toxic three carbon sugar. It is active
ingredient in all sunless or self-tanning lotions and sprays. It is derived
from raw sugar cane or sugar beets. It interacts with the outer layer of
your skin, resulting in a brownish colour change. When dead skin cells
naturally wear off, the bronze color begins to fade; usually within 5-7
days after application.
Did you know?
Did you know that DHA is also used at diet and sports nutrition
supplements? Test have shown that DHA is less toxic than
aspirin, caffeine and table salt.
Based on research the maximum amount of DHA that could accidentally
be ingested or breathed during one minute sunless tanning session
would be less than one grain of common table salt.
