1. Searching the Geospatial Inventory
at the Map and Data Library,
University of Toronto

2. Visit the website
of the Map and
Data Library:
maps.library.utoro
nto.ca. Under the
Research tab, click
on “Search the
Geospatial
Inventory (U of T
holdings).”
3. You now see the
inventory search box.
If you do not have the
name of the geospatial
dataset you require, we
recommend you use
the Advanced Search,
which can be found
under the Geospatial
Data Collection-tab.
4. To search for
data on parks in
Ontario, you
could type
Ontario into the
Geography
search box, and
Parks into the
Subject Heading
search box.
5. To explore the
search result,
click on the name
of the dataset. In
this case
“CanMap Parks
v2012.3 (2012).”
6. You now see a
metadata record.
It has
information
about the
dataset. Of
particular
interest might
be:
-Data access
-Data creator
-Type of data
-Who can use
the data
-Data formats
7. 1) If the data can be accessed online (Data Access: Download), click on
Download.
2) Read and accept the conditions of use agreement
9. The files are zipped.
In order to use
them in ArcGIS, you
need to first unzip
them:
Right-click on the
ON.zip, then select
7-Zip -> Extract to
“ON”.
