Chartreux

a
rare
breed
of
domestic cat from France and
is recognised by a number of

The Chartreux is large and
muscular,
with
relatively
short, fine-boned limbs, and
very fast reflexes. They are
known for their blue (grey)
water-resistant
short
hair
double coats which are often
slightly nappy in texture (often
showing
"breaks"
like
a
sheepskin) and orange- or
copper-colored eyes.

folklore and dynastic culture.
The natural breed, based on a
native
landrace,
is
presently
recognized as a formal breed by the
US-based
Cat
Fanciers
Association (CFA) and China's
own Cat Aficionado Association
(CAA).

The Exotic Shorthair is a breed
of cat developed to be a
shorthaired
version
of
the
Persian.
The
Exotic
Shorthair is similar to the
Persian in many ways, including
temperament and conformation
with the exception of the short
dense coat. It has even inherited
much of the Persian's health
problems.
14. GERMAN REX
German
Rex
is
a breed of domestic cat. They
are a medium sized breed with
slender legs of a medium length.
The head is round with welldeveloped cheeks and large, open
ears. The eyes are of medium
size in colours related to the coat
colour. The coat is silky and
short with a tendency to curl.
The whiskers also curl, though
less strongly than in the Cornish
Rex.
15. HIMALAYAN
The Himalayan (a.k.a. Himalay
an Persian, or Colourpoint
Persian as it is commonly
referred to in Europe), is a
breed or sub-breed of longhaired cat identical in type to
the Persian, with the exception
of its blue eyes and its point
colouration,
which
were
derived from crossing the
Persian with the Siamese.

Lion, one of the largest mem

lion's size and strength have
captured human imagination
since ancient times, giving
these animals the nickname
king of beasts. Lions are also
known for their mighty roar,

heard by humans more than

The Maine Coon is noted for its
large bone structure, rectangular
body shape, and long, flowing coat.
The breed can be seen in a variety
of colors and is known for its

Health problems, such as feline

cardiomyopathy

dysplasia, are seen in the breed, but
screening methods can help
minimize the frequency of these
problems.
18. MUNCHKIN
The Munchkin is a relatively
new breed of cat characterized by its
very short legs, which are caused by
a
naturally
occurring
genetic mutation. It has been named
after the "munchkin" doughnut.
Much controversy erupted over the
breed when it was recognized by The
International Cat Association in
1995 with critics voicing concern
over potential health and mobility
issues.
19. NORWEIGIAN FOREST CAT
The Norwegian Forest Cat is
a breed of domestic cat native to
Northern Europe. This natural breed is
adapted to a very cold climate, with top
coat of glossy, long, water-shedding
hairs, and a woolly undercoat for
insulation.
Although
this
is
uncertain, the breed's ancestors may
have been a landrace of short-haired
cats
brought
to
Norway
by
the Vikings around 1000 AD, who may
also have brought with them longhaired cats, like those ancestral to the
modern
Siberian
and
Turkish
Angora breeds.

The
Ocicat
is
an
alldomestic breed of cat which
resembles a wild cat but has no
wild DNA in its gene pool. The
breed is unusual in that it is spotted
like a wild cat but has the
temperament of a domestic animal.
It is named for its resemblance to
the ocelot. The breed was established
from Siamese and Abyssinian stock;
later, American Shorthairs (silver
tabbies) were added to the mix and
gave the breed their silver
color, bone structure and distinct
markings.

Leopards eat anything

They are excellent diggers
but they are not agile jumpers or
climbers.

or nocturnal depending on the
habits of the prey where they
live.
The name serval is
derived from a Portuguese word
which means wolf-deer.
The serval’s hind lets
are longer than the front ones.
A serval can leap in the
air to catch birds.
59. Young cats disperse from
their mother and set out on their
own when they’re 19 to 24 months
old. Usually, female snow leopards
will only have their next litter once
the cubs have dispersed.
Female snow leopards will
be ready to have cubs of their own
when they are two or three years
old – so soon after they leave their
family behind, they’ll start their
own.
Like kittens, snow leopard
cubs are small and helpless at birth
– they do not open their eyes until
they are about 7 days old.

in colour with black, cloud-like
markings. They are stockily built
and are excellent climbers.
