Software systems design bridging courses in canada
1. Software Systems Design Bridging Courses in Canada
A bridging software systems design degree program is for computer programmers, analysts
and software engineers who wish to enhance their programming skills and develop
additional skills in business consulting, cryptography and information security, database
solutions architecture and entrepreneurship in the new economy. The computer
programming graduates are directly admitted to the third year of the course.
The software design program runs for two years through four semesters. The graduates
complete three bridging courses – two in mathematics and one in computer architecture
while preparing them to work as software developers, database administrators, computer
programmers, game programmers, system analysts, web application developers or
business analysts.
Program Content
The bridging software course focuses on developing skills in logic and problem-solving
strategies, database programming, software design patterns, software standards, testing
and maintenance, project management and computer and human interaction.
Students complete three bridging courses, including two in mathematics and one in
computer architecture, in the sixth semester. In addition to this, they also develop skills in
technical writing and documentation, programming for network systems, and architecting
database solutions.
During seventh semesters, students study about emerging technologies, software quality
assurance and service oriented architecture. Eighth semester introduces them to the world
of business consulting, entrepreneurship in the new economy, cryptography and
information security.
They also need to choose any one from among liberal studies elective courses, including
calculus with applications, psychology: the science of behaviour, sociology of deviance,
consumer psychology, and principles of human behaviour, ethics for a plural world, political
and contemporary issues and popular culture.
Where to Study Bridging Software Systems Design Program in Toronto?
Although a number of colleges offer bridging courses in software systems design but not all
are accredited. Centennial College’s software design course is a fully Canadian
Information processing Society (CIPS) ISTAC accredited program. The program graduates
are eligible to apply for certified membership to CIPS. The program offers a number of
benefits to students. It:
• Accepts applications from computer/software engineering graduates from other
• Incorporates individual and team-based software development projects
2. • Focuses on developing project management skills, so that the graduates can seek
more advanced employment opportunities
• Is delivered by experienced faculty members, who have strong academic and
industry backgrounds
How to Apply for This Course?
Since this is a bridging software systems design degree program, applications from
computer programmers, analysts and software engineering graduates are accepted. In
short, the applicants must have gone through post-secondary education in computers or
any other related discipline from a recognized institution. Apart from this, they also need to
submit a proof of English proficiency. Transcript review from an independent credential
assessment agency is also required.
The program also accepts applications from international students. However, they also
need to get their transcripts assessed from a credential assessment agency as well as
submit a proof of English proficiency.
The completed applications can be submitted to the college in person, online or via mail.
The offer of admission is sent by the college to eligible applicants. They need to confirm the
offer before the due date by logging into their account.
