- Welcome! I did not name this panel. Jennifer Rutner, Assessment and Marketing Librarian I am 27 years old, and as you can see I was born in 1980. Researching the characteristics of each generation – I am caught squarely between "Generation X" and the "Millennials“ I see myself as self-reliant techno-literate optimistic confident achievement-oriented. I need structure I believe in hard work Promotions should be based on ability not seniority I am loyal to my organization, unless I don't feel appreciated I value open communication above all. My family got its’ first computer when I was 4 and I grew up with a Nintendo and Nickelodeon My first war was Desert Storm The first President I remember was Bill Clinton September 11th happened my senior year of college And, I'm a librarian. Context and building an understanding of who our colleagues are and how their generational perspectives shape their work lives.
